Hello Everybody,
I'm new here and a Very happy owner of a ´07 xb12r. My bike has nearly 950 Kms and when I started it today, I've noticed a very metallic sound coming out from the V2. My fisrt tought was the electrofan was stuck, but after a 25minutes ride, when I turned off the bike, the fan was working perfectly. I do not know whether this has happened to someone before, but just for safety I'll be parking the bike all weekend long. Any clues?

Best regards,

Franklin

If I were you I wouldn't just park it. I'd get it to a dealer ASAP.

Here is the best way to look at it. If you can't fix it yourself you better off sitting it for a few days until the dealer looks at it and fixes it or you can ride it and ruin it and possibly be out more money and more time. If it's a warranty issue they will cover it. If you ride it with a known issue they will not cover it under warranty.

What is a metallic sound? Does it sound like a clanking, or a pinging? Or does it buzz like live wires? Or are you hearing "For Whom the Bell Tolls" being played realy softly. Buells will sometimes do that.

It sounds like clanking, definitely from the motor!!!

Just get a D&D Pipe you won't ever hear that clanking again.

(That was a joke by the way)

Yes, above 3000 is very hard to notice!!! I would say between 2500-3000 rpms you noticed it clearly!!!

Sounds like a question I had a while back. This thread may help. If you haven't already, I would suggest switching to full synthetic oil. I run AMS Oil but others swear by Royal Purple or Mobile 1.

Excellent post, On monday I'll drive the bike to my dealer and I'll talk about the timing and eventually upgrade to the best oil available.

Thanks for you help.

If its hapening at idle however....that I dont think is normal. Check oil level, and get to the shop.

I did, Oil level seems to be ok. Nevertheless, I'll do an oil change on monday at the dealer.

Well,

After two days the bike at the dealer, they've managed to eliminate the sound when the bike is idle, however they just call me to tell they'll check the valves again.
Bad luck to me!!!
