Windshield removal? - again

Hi all, I see this was covered in a previous post

However I still can't remove my high/touring windshield (on an '08 Uly).

My tall screen has rubber lugs at the top and at the bottom two hex/allen headed bolts. These are sunk into a wider washer/flange. However, when I turn the bolts, they just go round... and round... and round.

Is there something obvious I should be doing - other than removing the whole flyscreen assembly and securing whatever nut arrangement is on the rear?

You got it. Pull off the flyscreen assembly and hold the nuts on the back side.

Thank you! - Is anything straight forward on a Buell??? Reminds me a bit of my Guzzi. I had to drop the exhausts and virtually dismantle the engine to get the rear wheel out!

If you had the short windshield it would pull straight off since it doesn't use the screws at the bottom.

I gather there's a risk of stripping the receiving thread for the flyshield bolts.

Apparantly it happens easily. Any experience of this and any suggestions to prevent this happening?

If your talking about the 6 screws that hold the flyscreen on I haven't had any trouble with those stripping out.

they are threaded into aluminum so be careful, but at the worst if u do accidentally cross thread one just run a tap down it. and its not like they have to be super tight. my fly screen in held on be threaded spikes that i put in with my fingers and they dont fall outhttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/6519_20120617093726_L.jpg

For anyone also new to this, the flyscreen screws were easy to remove. I could see that the previous owner had already started to crossthread them (due to worn threads at their tips).

I found very careful alignment of the flyscreen to the screw holes was essential (made harder because of the flyscreen curvature) - but most helpful was a dab of grease to the screw tips which helped them find their true thread more easily - and refitted without issue.
