Just thought I'd share this pic...think it's pretty funny. On a looong road trip I lost the bike on gravel breaking off the shifter on my old 99 x1. Not a single dealership from Michigan to Georgia had the part so a quick fix:

scrap copper from a/c unit
random HD peg
drill a few holes and BAM...classy new shift peg!!http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/3214_20090305225523_L.jpg

Needless to say I put it back together when I got home but that damn thing was sturdy as hell!

I am kind of disappointed though. I didn't see one strip of duct tape!

Awesome job on the shifter repairs.

I used a vice grip on one of my dirt bikes after the shifter broke. It kept falling off so I kept it in 3rd gear and said F the clutch :) 2 days later I welded it on. My brother blew the motor shortly after... gotta love it

quick thinking there. though I'm surprised the Vice Grips didn't fall off

On my 88 yz 490 I didn't have a bolt for my kicker so I'd slip it on, kick it, pull it off and stick it in my boot. It was actually quite comfortable and a perfect fit so I never fixed it. Everyone thought I was crazy and that's probably because my bike was a one kicker so I would be gone before any of them every got started.:D
