I run amsoil 20w50 in the primary and I run amsoil 50w in the engine. I live in California, so it works well (engine oil), but if you live in colder areas you may wanna stick to the 20w50.

Cheers!

I run Red Line 20w50 in the primary year round. I've started running RL10w40 in the engine in cooler/cold weather. It makes a significant difference when its cold. 20w50 when its warm. I live near Seattle.

amsoil:
20-50 motorcycle oil for both primary and motor. motor takes 2.5 quarts with filter change/primary takes 1 quart with over-nite drain if possible.
replace both drain plug O-rings if they appear even remotely scarred or nicked. both are the same.
20-50 for consistent fahrenheit temps above 65 degrees....15-40 if consistent temps below 65 degrees.
be certain it is the amsoil MOTORCYCLE OIL as they sell 20-50 automotive as well.

DO NOT use torque specs for ur drain plugs. U will strip them. Just go by feel on the tightness. Alot of people have stripped their plugs using factory specs.

There are many oils riders like to use. The AmsOil products seem to hold up a little better than some of the conventional oils. The 20/50 in the engine is ok.
I use 20/60 AmsOil in the Engines and the Redline in the Tranny OR primary (Transmission) so it Protects the Inner Crank seals better due to the Heat issues with the XB models of bikes. Since the Bike is Air Cooled it takes a toll on oils . I also Use During hot seasons the Amsoil Severe Gear Products in the Transmissions ONE Half Quart of that TO to One Half Quart of 20/60 OR 20/50 will hold up better than a single product.
the seals cost a lot of time and money.Good Luck. *Jimi

Extra Virgin Olive Oil..... the best, costs a lil extra but well worth the price.
