mapping gurus on the site along with my own personal experiences in the 08-10 realm typically feel that a 2009 XB with a hawk muffler and OEM air filter will have rideability issues. having owned 4 XB's to date in this model year range of which 3 had hawk mufflers....i found that replacing the OEM filter with a K&N along with NGK DCPR9EIX plugs....a tps reset....and "ride in learn mode" resolved most of what you described as issues.

Tps reset is super easy on the 08+ bikes, turn the key on, kill switch on. Then slowly go full throttle, then slowly back to no throttle. Twist the throttle like that 3 times, and shut it off. Done

thanks for the fast reply, the filter, plugs, no problem, tps reset do'able , please explain "ride in learn mode", thanks
what midget said on the tps reset for your year XB. riding in learn mode is as follows: with gear on and ready to ride....and red run switch to off....turn on ignition switch. let gauges sweep, then red run switch to on. let CEL light cycle thru then turn off. start bike and let idle approx. 1 minute till a bit of warmth in motor, and now ride for distance of approx. 20 miles. during this ride cycle avoid prolonged idling, no full throttle riding, avoid long hard up-hill pulls and jack-rabbit starts, and no trips to redline. in other words ride normally but a bit tenderly with the throttle inputs.
