Does anyone have any ideas about how to keep the heat off my right thigh? I thought about blocking off the seat holes under the seat or wrapping the pipes. Any ideas?

thanks

I'm thinking about doing the pipe wrap myself, it should help a bit. Some people have made heat shields for under the seat, dont know how well it works though.

i have noticed the heat most when wearing thinner pants. Jeans seem ok but with kahki's you really feel the heat. I am wondering if the right side scoop would help cool the engine more? I live in florida and these 90+ days the bike gets pretty warm, although i think i am gonna love the heat in the winter.
I am thinking of getting the pipe wrap to try, but dont want to waste money on it if it is just a theory and doesnt actually work.

the rh airscoop does help...i tell you, the vent hardly ever runs since i've installed the thing.

the thermowrap is also solution, but it doesn't help you with the heat coming from the engine.

whatever you do, do not block off the seat holes...the hot air needs that flow to get enough cooling for the rear cilinder.

Has anyone tried these heat barriers?

that's easy to make yourself, but keep in mind that cooling the rear cilinder will be much more difficult that way...

so when you drive alot at low speed in high temp...beware of heat damage to the engine!

Try riding pants, I just got some and I don't know why I bought them sooner!

I bet the liquid cooled Buell 1125R will address some of the heat issue.

I did the wrap and it seems to help a little bit.

I've got some wrap for mine too. Any tips for a rookie wrapper?

Got it. I bought the wider wrap so I should be able to do that consistently.

I did it. I did a great job if I must say so myself! :)

wrap from muffler up towards head..not from top down

wrap from muffler up towards head..not from top down

why?

would think the other way around, since that part is hidden behind the chin.

I started top down. I have seen a few and they all started that direction as well. Oh well, I am not redoing it!

I used the 2" wrap and overlapped much more than 1/4 ". I think it worked beautifully. It looks nice and this, along with amsoil really does keep my bike cooler. My fan definitely comes on less and we are in the middle of some serious heat. RH Scoop will also get done at some point.

My husband and I both have XB12's, his pipe is ceramic coated on the inside and and 2 coats on the outside (which I understand is standard) mine are not. HUGE difference!!!! don't know if it works better then the wrap but it sure looks better!!!

yep...the inside coat will not help that much unless you got some serious drag-power egine under there.

the outside does make a difference and helps a bit more than the wrap.

So how many ft. of wrap does it take in 2" wrap? Way old topic, but curious..

Sorry Zoe, I don't remember. I bought mine at an auto parts store. I bought the black header wrap for a 4 cyl. There was plenty left over. It did help the heat, but I don't like it as much as ceramic coating. I will get them coated at some point.

Ceramic would be nice for sure, I went ahead and ended up wrapping my pipes and it took just under 50 ft of the 1" in black then used the black sealing heat spray stuff they suggested...it turned out pretty nice..took some time though and it does seem to help with the heat...[up] It looks so cool:D

Did the pipe wrap initially and notice a good result. I then added the comfort kit and summer a further improvement, meaning less heat. I did the kit in stages and would have to say that the fan shroud was more effective than the R/H scoop of pipe baffle.

I have 2 other ideas to explore. 1)installing jet engine heat shield under the seat and on the inner side of the frame, and 2) modifying the breather box cover with 2 ram air inlets and having the outlets strategically directed. This second one will take some time to organize but thought that the under seat air conditioning tubes in some high end cars would be a start.

My right leg was frying untill I installed the Ulysses comfort kit.Right side scoop/ with the Heat shield And the fan shroud worked for the rear cylinder. What a difference!Soon as the fan comes on cools right off. It really takes a Long time if in Traffic to annoy me.Most of the time it works just great. My race bike the Headers are wrapped in white. That works ok but I'm moving 97% of the time.
