I cut about 7 inches off my factory racing pipe, then welded the end back on, I think it turned out pretty well, made a hell of a difference in the sound, painted my chin scoop while it was off will update with pics! This was a very easy mod I recommend it

you cut up a priceless race pipe? [sad]

Interested to see what it looks like with the chin fairing.
Do you have anything for a rear mount?

Thats true, Dave...

why say a priceless pipe???
Are they not available anymore or something?

I think it makes the bike look high. Adds to the space between the tire and pipe which looks bad to me.Almost looks to small.

BUT, I would like to hear it and see what it looks like with the chin fairing on.

Oh and do you ride that thing?

Everything looks spotless. Even the inside of the swingarm is clean, and behind the oil filter.

Race pipes haven't been in production for a few years. I wish I had one :(

Damn I feel lucky to have one then.

Guess I took mine for granted, didn't know they weren't available. Well all the more reason to get mine powder coated and looking nice.

how is it for stinky leg?

sedars
06-01-2009, 04:10 PM
while I don't know what stinky leg is? the pipe sounds awesome, and I think it looks much better than stock.

Midnight82
06-01-2009, 04:12 PM
My assumption is that Stinky Leg is what you get when you're at stop lights and exhaust is blowing on your leg.

Nice mod, job looks clean.

I personally like the org look. It seems like there is a big gap now.

Nice bike though!

Sedars, don't worry about those who don't like it. It's not about what they like, it's what you like. that's the beautiful thing about customizing. Do what makes you happy.

Nice job but not really my cup of tea. The most important is that YOU like it. For the stinky leg it's the exhaust smell when it hit your leg and with the outlet where they are I assume you would get all those fume .

haha even looks like he vacuums the carpet he parks his bike on...

tuneport67ss
06-06-2009, 10:54 PM
I think it looks bad ass. It makes the bike look like it has been extended to me. The space between to muffler and the rear tire adn length to the overall look of the bike. I might have to try this one out my self. +1[up]
By the way what does the guts of the race pipe have? How is it laid out?

sedars
06-07-2009, 04:56 AM
its just a straight pipe with packing and a grill to keep it in

sedars
06-07-2009, 04:59 AM
yo patrick, I will throw some dirt in my clean garage, and on my bike so it can suck like yours- I forgot we should not take care of our stuff, I can't believe people on this forum would talk **** about someone keeping their stuff nice, gotta go dig for my dirt, later!!!

Midnight82

Sedars,
I am envious of your clean ride. I can't for the life of me keep my bike clean. I don't know if it's just because I ride mine too much, or if I'm a lazy piece of crap and only wash mine whenever I feel like it. (which isn't very often)

Mine's all black with the exception of the amber wheels and windscreen. My wheels get nasty lookin quick.

sedars, cleanliness is a key.

Not everyone has the time to do it so you may offend others who may not take the time to do the same.

My bike stays dirty because I ride everyday as my main source of transportation here in Southern CA.

So I look to individuals such as yourself that keeps a clean bike as inspiration to do the same. +1 & [up][up]

I wish my bike could stay that clean all the time but the fact is it doesn't. Best bet that I'll have it sparkling at MotoGp this year!

Nice work keeping your toys looking great.

Thanks men, I hear ya, I hate black rides, I mean when they are clean they rock but it seems they are very rarely that way[mad], my bobber is black, the only way it stays clean is when I don't ride it, which is most of the time

Midnight82
06-08-2009, 09:59 PM
Yea, the other issue I'm having with the black is my airbox cover is showing where from leaning on it (zipper and belt buckle rubbage). I'd put a tank protector deal on it, but I think they look silly.

I want to repaint mine, just haven't landed on a color.

no worries sedars, just calling it how I see it brother.

As for the black rides, my XB9SX has all black fairings, and rims. I can totally relate, but love how she looks at the sametime [up][down], it's sorta a love hate situation.

Hey Midnight, if I can make one suggestion, it would be keep it simple, now if you look at my bike I did not take that advice but they sweet when they are kept simple!!:)

Midnight82
06-09-2009, 04:19 PM
Yea, It'd be out of charector for me to drive something too flashy. [cool]

I might just redo the black, but have it done nicely.

My bike was originally red, but repainted black by a previous owner. It's a bad paint job, it has that orange peel look. [sad]

sedars
06-09-2009, 04:34 PM
yeah, thats no good, nothing some wet sanding and buffing wont cure!!

Midnight82
06-09-2009, 04:36 PM
I'll have to give that a shot!

Looks good i would like to see a custom pipe that is flatter against the bottom of the bikes. making it harder to see and i have the scg that will bump the exhaust on rough RR crossings and some speed bumps.

i have the scg that will bump the exhaust on rough RR crossings and some speed bumps.

Now that sucks. Never thought about that one [smirk][down]

sedars

you know there is not much to these race pipes, you could for sure make your own, that would be cool to have a flat pipe!!!

Kole_DeWoody
06-10-2009, 02:48 AM
I like it. Did you paint your bike?

sedars
06-10-2009, 01:20 PM
Yep, I do all my own work, (and stunts!) :D

tuneport67ss
06-10-2009, 01:33 PM
I think a flat pipe is a great idea. Do a little bit of chamber work on it and I bet the sound would be great. I may have to work on this. I hapen to have some stainless sheet laying around. May be a winter project.:p

TechMagic
06-10-2009, 02:27 PM
Yea I've bumped my race pipe cutting lots before, a stainless race pipe that's about half as thick, with a matching wide outlet would look cool. I know extremelow wouldn't like it ;) since the bike would look taller.

tuneport67ss
06-10-2009, 03:38 PM
Ya but with the flatter pipe, you could lower it even more. LOL;)

sedars
06-10-2009, 03:40 PM
I was even thinking of making a dual straight pipe what would only come off the bottom of the engine about 3 inches, that would also sound badass!

tuneport67ss
06-10-2009, 03:44 PM
Yes I agree. I actually love the straight pipe, but was thinking a chambered exhaust might sound good. [confused]
I know what straight pipes sound like.:p
I might make one of the flat pipes and sell it it fund my straight pipe mod.;)

06-10-2009, 04:34 PM
I think you and I could have a hell of a business Tuneport;)

Midnight82
06-10-2009, 04:43 PM
I might have to jump in on that idea with you guys. I love doing exhaust on my bikes. This is the front cylinder exhaust on my old Electra Glide.

In the top view you can see I had a foot clutch and a hand shifter. (Jockey Shift aka Suicide Shift). I used brass knuckles for the shifter that were just threaded on so I could take them off if I wanted.

I got 3rd place in a bike show at a bar here in Phoenix.

tuneport67ss
06-10-2009, 05:56 PM
Gotta love suicide shifters. They take some gettign used to, but they are a totally different animal. I like them on the old school look choppers and cruisers.

Yo Midnight82 whats up with seat?? Looks like you used a pillow from your bed lol jkjk

(cough cough) ...anyways... about that shorty pipe mod :D

Midnight82
06-10-2009, 06:27 PM
One - lol, I took a stock seat, chopped 6 inches of foam out, and trimmed 3 inches of seat pan out to make it a low pro seat and rewrapped it (initially) in black canvas. Then I went back and rewrapped in red vinyl with metal flake.

I'm into the old school if you hadn't noticed.

So yea, Shorty Mod is awesome.
I'm all for home made

Hey that bike looks like my bike, but not quiet as good......ha

Oh and it is just as Clean if not cleaner now that I eliminated some unwanted items from the front and rear, I also shortened the stand since I lowered the bike so it doesn't stick way out past the pipe anymore.

It will have the Scg tail swap and Ss extended swing arm next week. I am so excited I just can wait......hope the powder coating all goes good.

Very cool look, Ive ordered a new screen to do the cut down to it. Could you post a "Right" side pic please?

Did the Long swing arm change the handeling of the bike much?
