Bored tonight, decided I like the gold color of the Buell rims, went to my shop and mixed up a house of kustom color neon yellow, black pearl, and orange, topped it off with gold flake clear coat. I'm really happy with it and it really turned out close to the factory color except way more metallic flake. Will post updated pics this weekend when I paint the front wheel.

NICE!!!!

You're really going to town on your bike man. We wont even recognize it after another week. ;-)

Did you pull the tire off the rim to paint it? Or just taped off?

I let the air out of the tire and taped it off the best I could, as you can see I got paint all over it, but it will scrap off when it dries, plus I need to get new tires, so that will be next! Thanks man

Looks cool man.

Where do you live? You should repaint my wheels. Mine are all chipped up from haggard wheel weight removals and other road hazzards.

That looks great man! What did you do to prepare the rims for the paint? Blast, chemical strip, scuff??
Cheers:D

Sorry but I am not digging the ketchup and mustard look, never thought any type of red, marroon, cherry what ever looked good with yellow, gold or bright orange. Not to rag even more but in the pics the color looks like a Tonka truck yellow.

But if you like it cool, it looks different, oh and your bike looks dirty as hell so you better get to cleaning it.

Jk, still unsure on how you have such a clean and well maintained '03.

well for starters, its an '03 with about 3000 miles on it. Also the red and earth color have a ton of gold in them as well so it matches quite well

I know a few people on here would have given you money to trade their gold rims for yours.

I just want wheels that aren't all chipped up. I need them refinished. Or find a poor sap that will trade me for black wheels.

I'm going for the triple threat. black on black on black.

yo midnight, I hear ya man, If you really want yours painted, I could walk you through it. It really is pretty easy, and even if you don't do a perfect job it really does not matter because they are not that visible, but black is very easy to paint you can do it!!!!!

Sedars, that'd be awesome.

How big of an air compressor do you need to rock a paint gun?

sedars
06-05-2009, 12:11 AM
well, you can do it with a small one, I have a 15 gallon that I have done it with. However I never use considering we own a auto body shop. If yours is smaller you can do it it will just take a longer because you will have to stop but you do not need to shoot on high pressure, All you need is a scotch brite sander (by hand) two cans of self etching grey primer, and you paint and clear, remember your clear is the most important part my dad always said "lay it on like you want it to look" keep in mind if it drips your screwed, that requires wet sanding and polishing. You should not need to sand and polish wheels. Also Black is very easy to paint because it hides all your mistakes

sedars... u just scuff the **** out of the wheels!? i work at a body shop in South Dakota. was pondering the thought of paint'n my wheels... i've seen a set fully polished cost upwards of 500 for the pair but gave u a chubby...

sedars

yeah as long as you scuff the wheels and use self etching primer and sealer its fine

Great job on the paint! And, since you asked, it just seems like it needs something more than the levers to tie in the "top half" of the bike. Man, if the frame/swingarm could be painted to match it would just be that much better. Or maybe one of the pegasus head graphics in that gold color on the frame from Matter would tie it in enough. Either way, I'm jealous. ;)[up]

Midnight82
06-05-2009, 04:48 AM
Oh man, don't paint that frame.

sedars
06-05-2009, 04:49 AM
yeah good idea, i'm thinking maybe a carbon wrap on the frame??

only1reds
06-05-2009, 05:19 AM
powder coating it would be nice and would last much longer than painting it (frame and subframe)

sedars
06-05-2009, 01:47 PM
Oh I hear ya, i'm not sure about the frame because i am planning to turn this bike into a chopper, and get a xb12, then I start all over again. The bright side I will be looking to ditch all my plastics and frame. I will keep everyone posted

I've been eye balling a wrecked Buell out here, and I wanted to put the motor in a Flyrite Choppers frame.

It's a rigid sporty frame with a 160 rear tire. You can get a rolling chasis for like $2600 from them.

But you really have to be a man to ride a rigid. I rode a friends for a weekend and was pissing blood by Sunday. :D

dude, I made a V-star 1100 into a rigid, it rocks. I ahve my eyes on a big dog chopper at the moment
