I read this (http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/escape/tourtechntips/123_0444_flat_tire_tips/index.html) and this (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Firebolt-XB12-XB9/Troubleshooting/Flat-tire) but I still want to ask for opinions.

I got a new Michelin Power Pilot CT2 and I have less that 1000 miles on it. I went out to the bike today, and found this:

oh yeah, the tyre still hods air when the screw is in, and looking at the head, it would seem that I have ridden on this for a few miles without noticing...

I think you got yourself a stunt tire

I would think a dismount and a patch on would be ok. Looks like the puncture is in the top of the tire and not on the side. If it is off of the crown, you most likely have what Dave calls a stunt tire. I would take it to the local tire shop and see what they say.

My personal feeling is once a tire has been puntured, it's garbage. I don't trust tire patch kits on a motorcycle. If you have 4 wheels and one goes bad, you still have three keeping you on the road and alive. You have a rapid deflate on a bike and you're eating pavement HARD.

I had a flat on an old bike and I was this close (holds fingers closely together) to eating it. But was going slow so I was able to nurse it off the road.

My suggestion - Get a new tire and get road hazzard coverage on it when you buy it.

I got the patch kit from cyclegear, and while I was down there, I saw the PP2CT for $197 and installation for $20

so next payday I will replace the patched PP2CT tyre I have now... the local HD shops quoted me $270 for the tyre and an hour of labor for a replacement... so cyclegear FTW on this one...

So now I have a patched tyre to get me down to cyclegear. I doubt I'd ride the bike to work with a patch in place. I'll check the tyre pressure tonight and see if the patch is holding.

a one month old tyre, ruined! [mad][mad][mad][mad][mad][mad][mad]

plug that thing. I've done it a handfull of times to tires in the past. never had a problem...knock, knock. Put many miles on them.

I always plug and I have never had a problem.

The tire I'm on now has two, the last tire had three.

you can buy the plug/patch's on ebay for about $1 a piece.

Question: Why do you always get nails in the rear tire? I have never had anything in the front tire????

Tandem axle trailers tend to get rear punctures more often too, I think the front tire rolls over the screw/nail and kicks it up enough that its pointing up as the rear gets to it.

270$ for the rear.....that's crazy talk. I get the 2ct's for about 160-180$ for the rear.

My local HD/Buell shop quoted me $360 for a Metzler M3 installed and balanced. but.... the quote didn't include wheel weights if it was off balance. LOL

Screw them

seriously! when I was at dave's buell shoot, it was saturday afternoon, 4pm and I was 50 miles out of town, and my stock tyre was showing metal... I got a tow a tyre and balance for 350 out the door... $2/mile tow... good thing for local shops who want business!

I hate the idea of tossing a newish tire, but blowing a tire on 2 wheels would suck more than a ..um, never mind. You get the picture.
I know many out there ride with patches or plugs w/o problems. But it depends on your risk tolerance regarding a potential crash due to loss of a tire. Damage to your bike, damage to you. Do YOU think it is worth the risk?
RUA Brit/Aussie? Tire? Tyre?
