First, grab the '03 service manual by clicking the "Buell Service Manuals" link at the top of the page and save on your computer.

Next, I'd check my battery terminals and Grounds that are handy to make sure they've not loosened up. Then I'd look up the Voltage Regulator in the Service manual. It's got a section on diagnosing & checking to make sure it's good.

Good luck & post up if you're not running soon.

Also check connector 77, this connector seems to cause problems.

I also suspect your charging system.

This sounds exactly like my bike. I also have an 03 and the lights were dimming. It was the battery, i guess they just need to be switched out after 6 years.
I switched out my battery and the problem was gone.

thanks stevenc, going to check that conector.
My battery is new and reads 12,9V whith engine stopped.problem must be before the battery.

Start the engine and put the meter back on the battery. It should read around 14v around 2k rpm. If not, its a problem with your charging system.

Finally it dies...couldn´t start the engine this afternon.[down]
As i it the start button i could ear the starter goes on and die, and on...,and on... ,the engine nothing!
Seems like a bad starter relay or....no juice to feed it.Check voltage and 11,4v[confused]
So remember to check conector #77 and it was melted[mad]
I ride it this morning with a lot of fog and got home completely wet as well as the bike, so maybe this humidity finally killed that bad conector

I´ve seen a DIY but only to clean the conector.

Do i have to cut the wires to replace the conector?

Apreciate any help

Tighten battery terminals

I´ve found the problem and it´s conector #77

My doubt is whether should i cut the conector and replace it?

I have a 2009 Lightning 12Scg and noticed this last night out riding. Low-beam will dim intermittently. Not sure if the high-beam does it.

Might do the 77 connector replacement. Is this just a simple replacement? Or will I need to splice into the voltage regulator?

Well, I just checked the connector 77 on my bike. It looks just fine --- not melted or anything. What do you all think it might be?
