15040Hi I’m considering a Buell at 45k mileage in kilometres, it has some heat discolouration of the front pipe - is this normal or symptomatic of an engine over heat ?? Thank you ...please see picture

Aircooled engines are designed to run over a much wider range of temperatures than watercooled. While it could be that the pipe did get hot, its not definitive that is was over heated. It could just be running lean for a variety of reasons.

XB "over-heating" typically results in assorted oil leaks ABOVE the engine case assembly...cracked header assembly...broken exhaust port flange studs. if the rest of that Ulysses is as corroded as the components in your pics, check it very carefully. could be some very expensive and tedious issues lurking elsewhere.
