I loosened all of the triple clamp bolts, upper and lower, to lower the front end and show 3 lines on the tubes. The bike would not move up or down. Couldn't figure it out. I have done it on many other bikes.
What am I missing?

There is a slip ring that holds the tubes from sliding in the tree clamps.

If you want to slip the forks you need to take off the upper tree clamp, remove the slip rings, replace the tree clamp, and slip the forks,,,,,,,

But be carefull not to slip them to much because on a lightning the bars won't fit on if the fork tubes are slipped to much.

If you only want to adjust the suspension setting you need to turn the top of the fork tube, the part that looks like a nut.
