During last year I reported, and also had a few photos posted regarding the development of the ‘performance” exhaust in South Africa for a decent price, and more specifically to be in competition with the ‘settled’ manufacturers that as far as we are concerned ask ‘outrageous’ prices

Our development went extremely well and after using the new performance box for the past 8 months on my XB 12SS we concluded that it is by far the best as locally available

We bike were running a little lean on the normal Harley ECM programming and we had to start using the ECM Spy software, it works brilliantly

We had ‘n Dyno run 3 weeks ago and with the computer correcting all the climatic conditions and height above sea level we were surprised to see a 101BHP on the rear wheel

The box will now be manufactured on Stainless Steel 105mm tube with the necessary insert with the total length of approximately 320mm thus allowing for excellent performance before the ‘rev limiter’ gets activated, at this stage we do not make provision for the brackets for the lower fairing

We strongly advise that the ‘air filter’ be upgraded as well to allow for better breathing, something on this later!

Pics of the Pipe. You got any dyno sheets Deon?

Yes, this is the pipe but 100% more neat due to the Stainless Steel we are using as well as both front and rear flanges now bolting onto the box

The dyno was during a open bike day at one of the shops and the printer that day did for somne or other reason not print, we will after fitting the new box again do the run with a pint.

I would like to see this as the finished product.

Looks like it has a lot of potential and numbers talk, so a dyno sheet will help greatly to some, also an youtube video so we can hear what it sounds like.

We will post pictures and the video next week, believe me gents, there is nothing better than this!!

Nice looking pipe what kind $$ will it take to get one to US?
I just did a custom flowmaster and so far it sounds like an open header lol[sad]

Hi Everybody, I [DeonB] have been quite busy with work but also at last completed the research on the Pro Active Exhaust, the unit is now a fully Stainless Steel item [see pictures] with a 62mm exit pipe working absolute perfect, we will start with the production and fitment to few bikes in our city

I also fitted a huge cone filter to ensure that the engine breath properly [see pictures]

We at last had a Dyno with excellent results [see attached graphs], you will see that my Buell rev limit at 7000RPM

Thanx to ECM spy and a competent tuner in our region it was easy to deactivate the CO2 sensor, airtflow sensor, and increase the revs

Am I reading that correctly? Your pipe (and some tuning) took the bike from 97hp to 107hp?

The dyno sheets are the proof of the calculations of the events.

The actual power for the Buell as per publication in a leading bike magazine in South Africa, Two Wheels, July 2008 edition, are as follows:

XB 12s Lightning – 88 Hp, 107 Nm, although Harley claim it to be 100 Bhp, 110 Nm
XB 12R Firebolt – 84 Hp, 101 Nm, although Harley claim it to be 100 Bhp, 110 Nm

The RESULT - It only cost me 650 ZAR /77 USD / 54 00Euro per Hp for better power

The 1st sheet is the actual dyno with the 97,7 Hp, 115 Nm @ 6890 Rpm.

The 2nd sheet is a 400m Drag executed on the dyno with the 107.9 bhp @ 143km/h, the rpm was not available due to a different program on the computer for the drag.

The Dyno computer automatically conduct climate corrections, we are at 4300ft above sea level, and the temperature was approx 31º Celsius, humidity was calculated but not available to me.

I am happy with the performance with by bike [XB 12 '05 Model with 21000 km on the engine] and had a few ‘scraps’ with a Firebolt, he could not keep up, by bike is more streamline also due to an +- 14cm extended screen also self designed, tested and now in manufacturing

The actual rev limiter adjustment is a great advantage to the performance

The exhaust works well, is well priced and extremely strong due to the 100mm, 305 rated 3mm thick Stainless Steel canister

The total length of the pipe is the secret thus ensuring peak power between 5500 – 6000 rpm, the total length of exiting box for the buell is much to ‘long’, the peak power can therefore not be reached due to the ref limiter @ 6500 Rpm, it is estimated that the peak power will only be reached between 6800 – 7500 Rpm

The following of interest: The official Buell Aluminum performance box weighs in @ 6.3kg; our box is only 3.7kg.

It is important to have a box as light as possible, but also to keep in mind the quality, a friend of mine has a Ti-Force pipe with huge dents in the bottom, when they tried to weld and repair the box, the ultra thin titanium melted and he had to cover the box now with a stainless steel sheet, +- 9000 ZAR for the box down the drain
