Havent done it to my bike yet but I will be this winter. I work at a body shop and it would have to be scuffed, sealed, painted, and cleared. Its just a plastic like any others. Just make sure that they put a flex additive in the paint so that it doesnt crack when trying to put it back on.

Rob;
I wouldn't think you would have any problems, I believe the clear is the same material as the non-clear versions.

I would suggest that you don't go at it with anything more aggressive then a 220 grit paper for prepping though. I took an 80 grit after mine, the plastic likes to leave little "hairs" and gouges everywhere that took a bunch of time to get out.

I'm actually painting a spare airbox I got off ebay black. I used the krylon fusion paint then went over it with this krylon glaze clear coat stuff, I couldn't find the fusion clear around here. It sprayed a little milky but dried clear.

I used 320 grit to deal with minor scratches. I'll post pics later. I've got to buff and polish it today.

They are definately different types of plastic. The clear ones are very prone to cracking at the screw holes and I have never seen it happen to the nonclear ones. It it were me I would pick up a spare set of plastics to paint for that very reason.

I ran home and polished a section. I could have wet sanded to smooth out the finish but I don't have the patience at this time. The shine is better then I expected.

I found it on ebay for 30 shipped. It had some deep gouges in it from a laydown or crash. I sanded most of the scratches out then filled the deeper ones with epoxy.
