View Full Version : Voodoo or Special O.P.S. Exhaust?

I've been looking into some pipes and can't help to compare the Voodoo pipes to that of Special O.P.S.

Same price...they look similar...both constructed nicely from what I can tell...Voodoo wasn't included in the exhaust shootout so I haven't seen any data on their pipes. Are they constructed differently? Packing? no packing? Internal tubes? Interactive exhaust valve (for 12's)? etc, etc...

Just wondering if you all have had experiences or have enough knowledge to do a side-by-side comparison?

Here's a good look inside the Voodoo mufflers. He made this thread himself: DIY Voodoo Muffler (http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8924). Makes some beautiful pipes. [up]

Yeah...Thanks for the link Steve. I was checking that out earlier, but he no longer makes that one due to cost and complexity, so I'm left to wonder what the more simpler ones that he currently makes look like inside. Are they similarly constructed? (aside from workmanship obviously)

Im going to send my pipe out to Odie at spec ops as soon as I get the money. I really like his torque curve and the pipe sounds great on a 12.

Hi guys.

My mufflers were not included in the shoot out due to the fact that I was not producing them when the shoot out took place.
There is no packing to ever blow out and need replacing. They are built as a "expansion/resonace chamber". The interactive valve is still functional on the 12's.
I've used all the knowledge and tricks that i've learned over the years of building and being around drag and circle track cars on this muffler. It is a simple internal design but it works really good.
It was designed as a street muffler. It was made to pull really good from 2,000 to 5,500 rpm. As that is the rpm range where most people on the street are riding.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions. If you have any more please ask and I will do my best to answer them.

I just installed Voodoo's Black Majic muffler on my Uly.
It has a good deep sound at all speeds and as good or slightly better torque curve as the stock muffler. I like it.:-)

bump...anyone else want to chime in on this one???? I'm really curious as to what your experiences have been with these cans. ;)

Personally, I have no experience with either. But I looked at both prior to purchasing my drummer. If I wouldnt have gotten the drummer it would have been a voodoo, or the GB now that I think about it. I've read some of jim's posts and he just seems like a good stand up guy. Also I feel his pipe's designs and quality are a lot nicer than the special ops. I really dont care for the welds on the special ops. Thats just my opinon, but I have no real on bike experience. Voodoo!

Thanks Oxygen!! Exactly the type of comparative feedback I was looking for!

So I must ask then...What made you go with the Drummer ultimately?

Quality, looks, and performance. The pipe is not much more than a special ops or voodoo. If your tight on cash I suggest just wait another week or two and save a little more, but ultimately its up to you. The power curve, performance, reputation, and build quality is why I went with a drummer. The pipe sounds great, its loud but not ridiculous and has a great tone. Kevin is also a great guy! The billet end cap I think also looks the best and has no outside exposed welds. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Hey byrdock, how is it for long rides on your Uly? I want a more grunt on my 2007 but chickened out of the Drummer because I read reports of it being too much noise.

Like what oxygen said, I went with a Jim @ voodoo because of the quality of product. Jim's welds look great and he also makes custom pipes, which he is doing for me. [up]

A couple pics of Dave's muffler in works. He wanted a stock length muffler but with an oversized outlet. It has a smaller outlet pipe on the inside facing back a little to help keep the exhaust off his leg. Then the larger 3" stainless steel outer.

Anyone have Voodoo's website? I tried a google'd link and it was broken.

Doing the see-saw thing on Spec Ops, Hawk, and Voodoo...but I really like what I see as far as welding goes on the Voodoo.

Also, any posted dyno runs on the voodoo?

voodoo (http://www.voodoo-fabrication.com/)

The reason I went with voodoo was because of his welds. He actually cleans them up unlike the other companies. No dyno runs yet, but I'm working on it.
