First I pulled all the staples and removed the leather. Then I used a electric meat carver and took 1/2"- 3/4" off the top. Then I sanded it with a sanding block so round it out.

I actually did it wrong. I found out after I had already shaved it that I should have peeled it off the plastic, cut off the back side and glued it back down. Oh well.

The leather doesn't sit against the upward slope, which is the reason I'm not 100% happy with the mod, but it's better than changing the geometry and lowering it I guess.

**** Dave just glue the leather to the plastic, toss the padding and you will be all set.

It feels fine! No difference in comfort that I've noticed and I've put about 300 miles on it. 200 today.

Dave you might try a little 3M Super 90 spray adhesive on the foam and inside of the leather, let it tack up then press it together. That will hold your leather down in the right contour.

I have the glue and I've thought about it. But I had a hard time just pressing it up against the loose spots, so my worry was I'd have some stuck and some not stuck. Plus I've got another seat on the way and I dont know the condition. If its scratched at all, I'm going to swap leather.

I don't even notice it when I'm riding. As far as function goes, I give it a 10. But it is just a little noticeable so I give it a 7 in appearance.

I just noticed

or why?!?

To make it more aerodynamic, duh!

People that are short shave their seat down rather than lowering the bike and sacrificing geometry. I am of the shortness and I want to be able to back out of a parking spot easier.

I am of the shortness

I love how you've phrased that! You'll have to post the pics after you get your other seat and replace the leather. Lesson learned right? Now you know what to do for next time...looks good to me though.[up]

I shaved the seat down on my old Harley. It definately isn't as easy as it sounds. And holy foam padding EVERYWHERE when you start sanding.

Next time I mod up a seat, I might go get some wheel chair padding (way better than stock)and just start from scratch.

Ah, got it! I'm of the other variety (6'4) and with these long dancer's legs wouldn't have thought of the height factor. I thought it had something to do with your under-seat heat shield. I've got the other problem...The windscreen is virtually non-functional. I've been thinking of cutting down the screen/fairing ala xtremelow or a bit more like no_rice over on BadWeB.

I like my windscreen. I think it works pretty good. But the chopped look does look pretty cool.
