Ok Little back ground on me.
ASe certfied auto tech for 15+ year last 10 Automatic and manual trans main Line.
Like many other i Belive there are suprior fluids over stock. So I did a full off Royal purple change to my xb9sx+r per there website i put the maxcycle 10-30w.
When i drained it i was like hmm smells like it has gear oil in it.
but since i seen others using it and Rp site said it the BEST.
After seeing sevral post about rough **** up 2 second and down to first i got to thinking that wasn't there before i swaped to RP.
So this weekend i picked up a quart of Formula + while i was at Bike fest thoughly drained and flushed the primary case and refilled it.
I CANNOT BELIVE THE DIFFERANCE.
So RP will be getting a nasty email from me.
the formala+ was 4 dollars a quart less as well i might add.
Now i just wonder how bad i hurt the syncro rings in the 3400 miles i had the RP in there[mad]

I wish i knew it just says in big ass letters not for use in engine and smells alot like gear oil.
I am guessing it close to the mystery oil Gm Syncro mesh

I will be trying the Full Syn. 20w-50 when I swap my primary covers this week.

I am hoping it won't hurt the bike like you have stated RP did to yours Rob.

I've run RP in everything I own and have had not one complaint or problem. It made my bike run a lot cooler and I will never use another oil other than RP

You asked I found it
Harley Davidson FORMULA+ Trans and Primary Chaincase VOA

(Mini VOA via Amsoil)

Petroleum based.

Ca 169
P 230
B 210
S - some
Zn - essentially none
No other elemental additives.

Vis. within SAE 50 range.

Listed as a GL-1, does test out as a GL-3.

Harley owners may be better served by using a lube that meets GL-4 requirements and has more P and Zn, and a basestock resistant to shear.
Looks like straight 50 wichs is nearly 80-90 gear oil.
I have learned my leson and xtreme it just 8 bucks a quart otd up the road from you.
still shocked you didn't find the buell shirt i scored in the bargin basement for 10 bucks LMAO

What!!! Hot Rod Harley Davidson is a none Buell shop so they aren't supposed to carry Buell stuff.

Damn you Rob, I guess if I would have look or at least stopped in there I may have seen it.

RP had the exact opposite effect on my bike. Down-shifting wasn't as clunky and it ran cooler. I use 20W50 though in both holes, not 10w30.

Well, just got my 9 back from JTS Performance's shop for dyno and tune. They swear by Red Line products, and changed the 9 out while there to Red Line oils. They know Buells inside and out. No more clunk from trans, and shifts are super smooth, engine heat is less noticable, in 95 degree heat. Just my input.

A company's recommendations are just that, something they recommend or think is best. I always go by others' experiences. You can't beat real world testing.

I have Royal Purple 5W20 in my Cobra , with no problems i switched it from MOBILE 1 5W20 full syn. which is what i have had in it since it had 5000 miles on it runs fine with . I REALLY LIKE BOTH . BUT I have say i always Follow manufacturers recommendations for viscosity in everything. unless it's heavly modded n may need different viscosity.which none of mine is.

I want to change my BUELL to FULL SYN. rp, mobile1, H-D, or maybe red line. need to change it soon needs oil change.

I am a Aircraft Mechnic and worked on cars for years.
I know what some mystery additives that r put in some oil treatments , what they can do to destroy the engine components. u have to be carefull not to sucked in by the hype os some product.
Hell the FAA and aircraft engine (piston engines) manufactures dont allow any additives EXCEPT ONE if it only recomend by the manufacture and that is AVBLEND. but i dont think i put in car or motorcycle.

kinda funny that Royal Purle does say it recomends a certian viscosties and also say below in the fine print:: Follow manufacturers recommendations for viscosity.

if really want to whats in it get MSDS on it. it most likely will tell u whats all in it.

ROyal Purple has not replied to my email yet it has been 24 hours .
wich is very dissapointing[sad]

Think I will try the Full Syn HD when I swap out my primary cover and see how it feels.

If it feels stiff at all I will swap back to the Formula+.

What exactly the hell is going on in this thread? Maybe I'm missing what exactly you're driving at here? There are different weights, applications, brands, credentials, all being thrown around and I'm lost.[confused]

Please clarify what was tested here and what the results were? Thanks :D

POINT Blank i followed Royal purple recomendtion to put there 10-30w maxcycle in my trans and it started to shift like junk.
Switched back to formula + and most of my issue is gone.
Still not perfect i am sure the rough shifting did a little wear on my syncro rings

Doesn't Royal Purple recommend Max-Cycle 20W50 for our bikes? Thats what it says when I follow the links to our specific Buell.

Oh I see. 10W30 for the trans. Not sure dude. Let us know what they say though.
