View Full Version : Aftermarket rear fender?

Sure, my bike looks cool with that short little rear fender that doesn't really do anything, but lots of times I get caught riding through sprinkler runoff (here in Florida, it's quite common), and I get annoyed with that wet stripe going up my back. Does anyone make an aftermarket rear fender that's just like the stock one, only about 3 times as long?

I have seen a few aftermarket companies that make a hugger style fender. I have seen them in carbon fiber or fiberglass. This is the only one I could find so far, but I know there is more out there.

Let me know if you need any more help.....

I like carbon fiber and while that fender certainly looks nice, it doesn't seem to extend far back enough. I don't mind spending $200 for a damn fender, but not if it doesn't work! Anyone have any experience with one? Does it work?

I don't think you are going to get anything much longer than that one. I haven't seen any bike with that on it or had any experience with them. So no help here.

Nope, there are no fenders long enough. It'd have to be, what, 3 feet long!? :D

BMW makes a neat deal for their bikes that is basically a floating rear fender... it's an arm that mounts near the rear axle and extends back and around the rear wheel. A tiny little fender mounts to the arm, just enough to catch a rooster tail. Too bad Buell doesn't have something like that.

I would love to find a longer rear fender too. I thought I found one in the past, but I can no longer find it. Anyone?

BTW - Have you seen the new and improved Parts Shop here? Much improved.

if you shorten the tail section, you'll always get wet.

only way to solve that is covering the top rear quarter of the wheel and that just ruins the bike. [smirk]

Ruins the look?

Simple answer stay out of the sprinkler run off whenever possible. But those hugger fenders do work pretty good but like you stated the tail section is so short it gets your back.

I live in Florida - I can't stay out of the rain or I would only ride in the Winter.

Leather in the FL summer doesn't mix very well. You would be dead from dehydration from sweating so bad with the jacket on.

ride leather here at above 30°C, aslong as i'm on the move, i got no problem.

i never ride like i rode my chopper, which is shorts & a tshirt...not with this bike and traffic as it is nowadays

If there is no humidity 86 F 30 C is no problem, BUT we have some significant humidity here so off goes my leather and on comes my summer jacket. but like LeFox, I do always wear protection jacket, boots, full faced helmet - even at 93-96 F which we have just about everyday June through September. With a few breaks, we still see 90s in October and even November from time to time. December - April is really great. May is not too bad.
