Im a noob and one of my harley buddies is going to a poker run . Just wondering if they go slow through city routes. Will I be to young to hang (27). I like older people but I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb or feel out of place. [cool]

Did one a few months ago. Was for some kind of good deed. Heres how it went. Sign-up at 8:30 (coffee & donuts) Got a map of route about 100 miles (only Buell the rest Hogs) First stop a bar (got another coffee, the others were getting bloody marys). Second stop another bar 18 miles down the road (got a coke the others were getting shots with beer chasers) took a piss went back to my bike, walked through a cloud of weed. On to the next stop 20 miles down the road another bar, am the third bike there, more beers for others, me another piss. By now I was ready to hang it up, but on I went to the next stop, another bar, was the first there, and on to the next which was a 40 mile ride of great riding as all the high ones were behind me. Had a poor hand of poker at the end. There was food, booze and a band there. This was for a good cause, but next time I'll just donate. Yes they went slow, your not too young, you will stick out, there are attitudes, but do it, as its an experience. Cheers.

That is funny as hell.:D:D If they start giving me a hard time I will kick over a harley and watch the rest topple over like dominos. Then I will leave. Real quick. :D:D:D

K I personally haven't done a poker ride but my dad has...

So from a 35 year old Harley rider: They are fun but only worth going to if it is for a good cause. Sometimes they are too long and the ride isn't really at your pace. You stop at bars but it's stupid to drink while you are riding. But if you enjoy meeting new people and a rather slow pace then it's a good experience.

The one I went on was for the wounded vets... The one I went on seemed pretty similar to Rocky's experience. Registration was at 1pm, I thought the ride started at 1 so I was there at 12:30, there were already people drinking when I got there. I had a beer and waited for the ride to start at 2. We had a police escort out of town (really frickin cool). First stop was 30 miles away at a bar, that was the best leg of the run. It pretty much went down hill from there. No drugs involved that I noticed, but by the 4th bar everyone else was pretty loaded up. My buddy and I rolled our last roll and headed for Bismarck. There was food and a band back at the start of the run. When we left there were about 50 bikes in our group, by the time we got to the last stop the pack was broken up into groups of 2 to 10 bikes. It was a good time, but we made damn sure we were with the first group of people to leave the bars. I've always felt that a drunk person is better off FAR behind me...

I would definitely do it again.

Lets see.......riding with a group that continues to get loaded at each stop....I guess its a good way to ensure that there will be a run the following year for the idiots who were riding drunk and killed themselves............makes a pile of sense to me....[confused]

Phazer, you are 100% right. This run was for a guys brother that was buzzed all the time. When he drifted off a slight curve into a ditch, he was only a 1/4 from home. Wore a marble helmet not DOT, but was cool. (died of massive head injurys). You see them everyday. Oh well enough said.

Man read the Book of Buell full face helmets guys. Depending on the route they can be fun but our bike just aren't meant to cruise and drive slow they need carving.

We have a poker run each year to help the Veterans hospital. None of the stops are at bars. Two gas stations, one tiny shopping center, a firestation, and the VA Hospital itself is what we use. Others I've seen are exactly what the others described: ride to a bar, stay there an hour having several drinks, repeat at the next bar. Some poker runs are great, others suck.

I have been in a couple and always had a good time. The last one I went on I had the second highest hand and got myself a 100 gift certificate for a tattoo (sweeet). All of the ones I went on it was my group of my guys together and other groups together, we go on our pace and it is usually on back roads and country roads so we dont really go that slow. I like them better than the group rides because you dont have the rubber band effect.

participated in may poker and dice runs, they're better if you know the folks involved. riding w/a bunch of numbnuts ain't cool after a few beers and their poker hand sucks. hang toward the back and it'll work out.

most of the time people don't care what you ride as long as you can ride.

Just got back:)

It was a blast even though there were only 3 crotch rockets out of 80 bikes. It started at an amvets. Cool people. Older vets mostly. Took some country roads and stopped at 5 or 6 **** hole biker bars. Made our way back to the amvetts drew raffels and ate. Everyone had about a beer a stop. Nothing wreckless. Good people. Good cause. Good time. [cool]

Everyone had about a beer a stop

How many stops were there? Beer and riding is a disaster waiting to happen.....just my humble opinion

Actually there were 4 then back to the starting point. We road for about 20 or 30 miles in between stops.
