Hi All...

Tim here @ Motorcyclist Magazine. Working on a used bike bit & wondered if you guys would be so kind as to clue me in on some of the things to look for/avoid when shopping for a used XB12R. Looking for common problems more than anything...

Thanks in advance for any/all.

Best,

Tim

- frame-pucks fitted => possible frame damage
take a good close look to see any hidden damages...
it is also the 1st protection most buy, so it could be a false alarm.
- make sure every recall is done.
can be checked online with aid of vin.
- look at the tires a pegs will give you a good idea on how it's been ridden.
- check oil & filter will give you an idea on maintenance.
- if you don't know anything about technical stuff, bring someone who does (that's something you need to do with every buy...car, bike, etc.)

if the bike has been looked after, there's actually not any real problems with it.

If the bike has been modified ask about the original parts,the stock exaust is a common swap,if it has been done see if they changed the ECM as well.Also they vibrate a lot,give the bike a look over for missing body panel hardware.This might give you a clue as to how it was cared for. One last thing,the Dunlops on the early ones,'06 or older I think,sucked.By the way what month will your article be printed?
