so i finally got my bike goin again. it ended up being the clutch tensioner. but then i made a stupid idiotic mistake and when i hooked up the jumper cable wires i crossed them now my ignition switch fuse is blowing as soon as i turn the key. is this something i could ultimatly fix myself or should i just place my bike in the shop.

You shorted a wire somewhere. You can start tracing wires. It is time consuming, but not that hard to do. It will cost out the ass for a shop to find it. If you can atleast find it before you take it to the shop youll save a big chunk. If your abilities are decent, you could just fix it yourself. It really isnt that hard. Where might you be located anyway?

Did that on an oil cooled GSXR years ago, smoked the black box (eci). Just a thought.

Here's a good way to narrow down the search for a shorted wire:

To ID the area of interest (after ruling out the obvious sources like bad/dead battery, kickstand switch, etc):

- Pull the negative terminal cable off of the battery.
- Set a multimeter to mA.
- Attach the neg. cable to one lead and touch the neg. terminal on the battery itself.
- If it reads 0, you don't have a short.
- If it's anything but 0 then you have a short somewhere.
- Now start pulling fuses from the block one at a time until the needle drops to 0. That'll narrow it down.

Hope it helps.

I don't think it's a shorted cable, if the fuse didn't blow before you reversed the polarity on the jumpers then it's most likely not a short.

Anything electronic does not like when you reverse it's polarity, so there's a good possibility that your ECU is toasty. Unplug it and see if you keep blowing fuses.

Obviously you won't be able to start the bike, but it will at least let you know if that is what's sinking all the current.

if u hooked up ur battery cables backwards u probaly spiked the ECM. check for codes and run the test that S-150 mentioned.

so i ran the test that s-150 mentioned. it looks and it read 0 when i pulled the fuse for the ecm im guessing this means i blew my ecm. wanted to make sure im guessing right before i spend the money for it.

What was it reading before you pulled the "ECM" fuse?
