When i was getting ready to go on a ride this past week i discovered a metal shard had pierced my tire. i was wondering if anybody knew if it was a good idea to try to patch it or just be safe and get another tire. And what is the best tire to run on buells? any help would be appreciated.

don't patch it, get it repaired & vulcanised.

And what is the best tire to run on buells?
depends on what you ask from a tire...

DO NOT, I repeat, do not patch motorcycle tires if you care about your safety.

what tires offer the best grip, and longevity on a buell? and what are other people running?

to say that most brand tires don't make real bad ones, it's just a thing of prefference.

for grip and milage i would pick
- Pirelli Scorpion Sync
- Pirelli Diablo Corsa III
- Michelin Pilot Power ct2
- Michelin Pilot Road²

Pirelli's for mileage? I love their tires, but I've not seen good mileage out of them. Never had them on a bike though.

just try them...

i'm not saying that the track-tires wild get ya a lot of miles, but those 2 do.
the michelin gets better milage, but the pirelli gives better grip in rain/wet.

all these tires were on my bike, the Michelin Pilot Power ct2 is currently still on it.
think i'm gonna get 10 to 12k out of them...

That sounds like great mileage for a tire! I would give up some mileage for wet weather grip. While I ride in the rain all the time, I want to learn where my limit is so I can be more confident going around corners. I drive like an old lady when it gets really wet. I'm thinking a good track day may help me learn this.

well, learning how to control your bike and know it's handling is important.

i think most can agree on this, learning the limit is fun and exciting...just don't get overconfident, cause you will push it.

Just want to make sure since you're across the pond, is this in miles or kilometers?

10 to 12k

that's the k for kilometres (about 7500miles)

thanks for clarifying. He did say mileage in his original post so I assumed miles. LeFox you are right about being careful. I think I always will be, just want to be able to ride at least like my mom would and not my grandma! when it is raining. :)

cornering in rain/wet weather is not that different that with dry weather.
just:
- don't go as fast as with dry weather
- make sure there are no slippery spots on the road (markings)
- be easier on the throttle when coming out of the corner. a nice steady, gentle roll on...

I've got Pirelli Scorpions and have been using all of 'em. No chicken lines left. Great tires. [up]

I had the scorpion syncs and just recently switched to pirelli stradas to get more milage. they're a harder tyre then the scopions but just as sticky, highly recomended

I had the stock dunlop 208's for 5k miles, then the quailfiers for about 6k miles. I currently just put on a set of Metzler M1 in the front, M6 in the rear. The M1 is a sport tire, and the M6 is a sport-touring tire. After I had put these tires on I went on a ride with my uncle and was runnin about 130ish throught some turns with no problems. So far no problems out of them.

m3's are great tires at about 3000 miles on the back now think it's got a 1000 or so left maybe 2000 left but man the bike handle awsome.
