Has anyone done the conversion to the taller bars? if so, do you like them, or not?

Ill let you know next week! Mine just arrived from the ups guy today! I may put on a set of pro tapers I have laying around instead thou... Not sure the center diameter is the same.

I was told they were. The mechanic i talked to suggested them as an alternative.. I was also told you need new brake lines and cables. That all comes with the kit from Harley at $250. Then another $250 to install them. Debating on buying the only cr left in our area, but would have to do something with the bars. Let me know how it turns out!!:)

Will do! the only reason I bought the kit was to get the new throttle cables and clutch and brake line....

OK, Depending on how much I like the new bars or the pro tapers I will let you know.... They make my right hand fall asleep after about 30-45 mins of riding but the position is very aggressive on this bike so its a love/hate kinda thing. I love the sporty position and the great cornering but the comfort on long rides sucks!

I love the raised bars on my CR. I've had the sport bike bars for years and the raised bars offer a great option.

Well I did the High bar install today... PITA! the kit comes with the bars, longer throttle cables, longer front brake line and longer clutch line... routing each of them sucks esp the throttle cables. but after 4 hours i got it all done and adjusted just right. Also flushed all the brake and clutch fluid over to dot 4 super blue race fluid!

The new feel Is awesome, much more upright and quick feeling... I only got to ride home from work a few miles but will be doing some good riding this weekend... Will update with pics soon.

Thought I was buying a new bike with the higher bars.... so was not happy when it was delivered yesterday with the ace bars. You would not believe what I am being quoted for parts in the UK. The dealer I got the bike from quoted £380 for the parts and 4 hours labour at £80 per hour to fit them. I did get a better parts quote of £225 for the parts from another dealer. I leave you guys to the maths £ to $. Think I'll get the parts from the US and fit them myself.

First time here in the forum. Just purchased 1125CR in Oct. Like to install the oem tall handle bar kit - but not smart enough to find the end or how to get to the end of the throttle cables? Where can I access the cables? Pictures anyone? Please help. Yes, I am too cheap and don't want HD dealership to dick me around. Thanks.:p

You have to remove the riders seat, then the air box cover then the air box its self to get to the throttle end of cables.

Here is where they attach:

also make sure you get the resistor from buell and take out this guy while your in there:

now its a paper weight in the box full of un-needed parts like belt covers, reflectors, stock signals and mirrors, etc

Great pictures. Just few more questions if I may? What resistor do I need to buy? And why do I need this resistor? I am used to take the cable out and put a new one in - don't know any resistor? What happen if I don't remove this resistor? Would I do better wheelies?[confused]:p

LOL, the resistor is for a completely different issue than the high bars...

The 1125's had to install a solenoid that closed the throttle at a certain RPM in 3rd gear to pass noise standards... if this solenoid kicks in while your riding its scary and dangerous! Most people will either disconnect the cable from the solenoid to the throttle linkage, unplug the solenoid or like I did remove it completely... The resistor plugs in to prevent a check engine light from coming on.

Here is a great write up on the removal:
http://www.buellforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6932&page=2

This link has a very detailed write up, It is from another Buell site so if I violated any terms feel free to delete it and the OP can PM me for details.

I appreciated the reasoning and the link. Very helpful! I will try to do it in the near future.[up]

Oh... just an fyi... some people have said that the newest ecm flash versions will remove the solenoid feature so you don't have to worry about it. I took mine out anyway.

IRULE
01-11-2010, 03:42 AM
Is this ecm flash for 2008 model? I have the 2009 CR. How would I know if I have newest version or not?

xtreme6669

its for all years of r and cr. you either need ecmspy or the osb tuner and the connect cable to pull the firmware yourself or you have to take it to a dealer.

xtreme6669, I have been reading about this air intake issue (from other buell site). Few last questions, did you feel the smoothness of throttle (especially at low rpm) after you removed the cable and solenoid? After you removed the cable and solenoid, do you have to adjust any of the throttle cables? Thanks again for the help.

xtreme6669
02-27-2010, 05:14 AM
I didn't notice a difference in the throttle pull or smoothness.... no need to adjust the cables after removing the solenoid... it dose not effect the normal throttle operation

p.s. sorry for the late response...

By the way more on topic I love the high bars!!! bike is much much more fun to ride!! just wish it was easier to swap back and forth so I could put the clubmans on for track days... If I ever get around to getting the gear I need for a track day.

Installed the bars and denoided- LOVE thenew riding position- Hey I can turn my head!
I hear ya extreme, the clubs would be better at the track.
The only drawback to the bars IMO is the wind. But that aint no biggie.

Installed the high bars and like them. personally, one more inch would have been perfect. I put the 1 inch lower pegs on and i hear they are making two inch lower pegs.

2 inch lower pegs? Where did you hear that?

oh-forgot to mention- my wires to the front brake switch are definitely too short. At full right, one of the connectors pulls off. I freed it up as much as possible, but its just too short. I'm gonna whip up some extenders in a few minutes.

Just mounted the tall bars and I love them.
Had a bit of a problem getting the throttle to return in the extreme left hand position but otherwise no problem

IRULE

Yes, I have the same problem. What you need to do is, unhook the throttle cables from the throttle - striaght the throttle cables - make sure they not twisted - then re-route it without too many bends. That should do it. Good luck.:D

Hi.

I think som of you have been ripped off by your dealer. I just signed the papers for my 1125CR and am getting the higher bars fitted by the dealer.
Here in Norway the 1125CR comes with the higher bars as an accessory when you buy the bike. The dealer does not pay for the higher bars as they come with the bike. This is also mentioned in a test a norwegian MC-magazine had of the 1125CR...

I know the 2010's come with the high bars, but none of the 09's (at least early ones) came with that option.. I dont mind paying the $200 for the kit seeing as I got the bike for $5750. Its just getting it all to fit right. Even the dealers have to struggle with the change over!! :[smirk]

Not to get too far off the topic, but I bought '09 1125cr brand new straight from the dealer with the high bar "kit" already installed. One thing I have noticed is that my throttle does not "snap" back when I twist it, but rather "creep" back to zero. Thinking this would be an issue covered under the "UNLIMITED MILE-2 YEAR FULL FACTORY WARRANTY" (booming announcer voice) I took it to my local HD stealership. They told me that unless the dealer I bought it from (two states away) recorded the bar upgrade in the VIN, I'm on my own as far as fixing it goes.[down][mad][down]

To make a long story long, that's something to keep an eye out for when installing the kit. They told me that there is some sort of spacer next to the throttle body that needs to be "squeezed" together or something... obviously it hasn't bothered me enough yet to tear into my bike. Just a heads up!

The bke I am getting is a 2009 with the clubman bars fittet. The higher bars was in a seperate box that came with the bike... They are mounting it for me before I pick up the bike.

Maskido, They are correct that you need to "tweak" the cable bracket that the throttle end of the cables bolt to. There is a post somewhere in the badweb archives that has a well documented and photo detailed write up. I used it when I did my install and it worked like a champ!

Yup - I just did the throttle body bracket "tweak" and it made all the difference on my install - no binding from lock to lock.

Just bought mine off Ebay yesterday. Still waiting for the service manual i ordered from the dealer. Going to try it myself and see how it goes.. Is there a thread on here that has a play by play?? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

So I got my bar kit today. Was going to wait till tomorrow evening to start, but we all know how that goes! :) I have the bars on and everything bolted on, but need to bleed the fluid on both lines. My question reffers back to an earier post about tweaking something?? My cables seem ok, but the throttle kinda rolls back and not all the way..It doesnt snap back. Anyone who has any info on what they did to make thiers better would be GREAT!

My suggestion would be to search the 1125r section of badweb for highbars.... its been beaten to death over there!

I tried the badweb site. Didnt find much so I did it myself. Took me awhile but its done! Had to mess with the cables a bit. They didnt quiet seem long enuff. I bought the selinoid plug but its on order. So to avoid the engine light, i just took the old plug end, cut it and spliced the wires till i get the new one. It was a pain, but now I know my bike alittle better and that always helps down the road. Thanks for all who gave thier input!

My dealer in the UK wanted to stitch me up with some silly price to change from the clubman's bars to the higher bars. I argued that the demo bike I rode had the highbars (and it was an 09 bike). We agreed that they would change the bars FOC at the first service.

The new bars really change the feel of the bike and as someone else wrote "I can now turn my head" which is just as well 'cos those silly mirrors are even worse with the high bars.

The bike is more fun to ride with the highbars and less of a serious scraper. One disadvantage I have noted is the front wheel seem more likely to launch its self skywards
:D

bonechip67
04-12-2010, 01:07 AM
Yes, the mirrors are now useless!! Think I will get some bars ends or something a little lower and mount some blinkers on the side panels around where the clubman bars use to be.
The bike seems lighter and a lil more manuverable as well!
