I did a couple of mods awhile back. One is a quick release system for the front seat. The second was that I added a Battery Tender quick disconnect to the battery. I also took a few pics of the bike on the Pit Bull rear stand made specifically for the 09 1125 R/CR and 09 V-Max. (Does this stand make my butt look fat?)

I've since added the Custom Seat and the Ulysses pegs.

Next will be to de-noid and to add a power outlet for use of my GPS that I use on my V-Strom. I ordered the Buell power outlet but I plan on cutting off the cigarette adapter and adding the BMW powerlet instead.

It already had the high-bar option, BTW.

Good looking bike! Needs the Jardine fender eleminator kit also.

I'm planning on doing the same thing! Except instead of using a power outlet or your BMW "powerlet" thing, I'm going to use a hard-mounted, standard two-prong battery tender outlet. That way, I can just plug the tender in there, and I can simply buy an extra power adapter for my GPS, cut off the cigarette adapter and solder on a tender outlet to the GPS wires.

That way I'll just have a generic power outlet/input I can use for different things.

I'm actually working on adding the powerlet now. I'll have pictures this weekend when I finish.

I don't normally give folks suggestions on what to do with their bikes, but sign me up with Red93stang ... After putting the Jardine kit on my '09R, I can't imagine going back to OEM. Kidder, I also installed the ASB quick-release seat kit and a tender cable. I had mine exit right inside the passenger peg supports so it wasn't visible. Still easy to get to ...

another Texas Bueller.... probably already asked this... but where abouts in TX are ya?

no.. your stand doesn't make your butt look fat... The fat in your butt is what makes your butt look fat.. <glances in rear view mirror at his own fat butt>

Nice lookin' bike.. I'm jealous just don't have the funds to replace mine right now or I'd have me one of them CR's..

I'm usually about function over form. The Jardine looks good but I imagine you'll throw more crap up and over the bike and also at your buddies. I had a friend with a fender elim on his CBR and I got more than my share of rock chips from him. When I was following guys that didn't have elims it didn't happen anywhere near as much. Could be coincidence, though.

One solution from your friend throwing rocks....dont follow, lead. Especially on a CR, no reason everybody shouldnt be behind you.

I have no problem leading. That's another reason why I won't get a fender elim.

I don't lead anymore, to many its an ego thing. To me its saving yourself a speeding ticket by not being the first in line.

Our ride leader has a V1. And, so do two other guys in our regular group. :) I need to get one when I'm not riding with them.

If I notice any chips, I might be glad I kept the factory piece around. Mine's been in the garage since I installed the eliminator ... Too damn cold for me! I said earlier that I installed a tender cable on mine. Technically I re-installed it since the dealer had already put it on. But their exit point was visible, and the leads were being hit by the metal piece of the rear pillion when putting it back on. Couldn't have that ...

Kidder, nice bike man. Where did you get the quick-release system?

How do you like the high bars? I am putting mine on right now. What do you think of them?

The quick release came from American Sport Bike (http://www.americansportbike.com/)

I never had the clubman bars so I have nothing to compare it to.

What's model specific about that rear stand?

Kidder
01-15-2010, 12:28 AM
Baal,

It's the stand for the 09 Vmax and 09 CR/R. Translation? It's a stand for those with a wide rear end. The regular Pitbull stand will not fit, it's too narrow.

Okay, here's the rest of what I've done. This will be it for awhile.

First is the powerlet installation. I bought the Buell cigarette lighter but I had no intention to use it other than use the plug and wiring. The cigarette lighter is too big and it doesn't look like it would hold the accessory plug in place. So, I went with a tried and true BMW style powerlet plug. I will use this to power my GPS.

Here's a pic showing the back of the cigarette lighter and the powerlet.

http://www.juddemerson.com/Buell/mods/pic.jpg

Here's the modified plug with male spades added (crimped and soldered). It's plugged into the accessory connector. The powerlet has female ends so the male spades fit into the female plugs. I wrapped each wire with electrical tape to ensure they didn't touch each other or anything else.

http://www.juddemerson.com/Buell/mods/pic1.jpg

Here's a pic of the hole I put in the side panel of the headlight. I use a 11/16" holesaw drill bit. I put that hole in it then used a dremel to make the hole slightly bigger so the powerlet would fit snugly but not too tight in case I wanted to take it out.

http://www.juddemerson.com/Buell/mods/pic2.jpg

Here it is installed. It has a rubber washer that goes between the plug and the plastic. On the back side is an aluminum washer and brass nut. I snugged it tightly but not too tight so it wouldn't crack the plastic.

It is horizontally mounted but the angle of the pic makes it look like it's facing slightly down. The lid is spring loaded and weatherproof. Powerlet (http://www.powerletproducts.com/) uses marine grade materials which is nice.

My next mod is the replacement of the stock tail/brake light (bulb) with the 2010 CR/R tail/brake light (LED). Unfortunately, I didn't take pics. However, all you have to do is cut off the plug on the 2010 light and put male .250 male spades. The wires on the '10 light match the '09 wires so it's just a matter of plugging the male spades into the existing wire harness on the bike.

I'm pleased with this because A) the light matches the turn signals and I like the brightness/quick illumination of the LEDs.

Part # is Y0401.7AC. It was around $50. If you have a fender eliminator there's a separate plate light that you can add, as well. I don't need it since I have the stock mudguard.

And finally, I like to use a tank bag to hold my stuff. And, since the underseat storage is non-existent, a tank bag is a necessity. This is a Tourmaster Cortech Super Mini strap tank bag. I have the magnetic version for my Strom which I like a lot. The strap version is $54.

The front strap goes around the headstock. The rear strap goes around the crossbar that the seat mounts to.

I can easily remove the bag when I go inside for a lunch stop, etc.

Very nice Kidder! Is the BMW parts for the Powerlet easily found? I think it looks a bit cleaner than the two pin battery tender connector I was going to use. Is there an online source for the female plug you used to hard mount and the male part that you're soldering on to your GPS wiring?

EDIT: Shoulda' Googled: http://www.powerletproducts.com/shop-by-product/power-cables/PWRCBL Still can't find the female one with the door though ...

I'm guessing you like using the Powerlet parts because it has that nifty spring-loaded door to keep it clean and it's weatherproof, as you say. Does it lock when an accessory is plugged in, or is it just a tight fit?

Kidder

Jeep, the Powerlet I bought has male spades. I took the female ends that came with the Powerlet kit and put it on the Buell accessory cigarette lighter harness. So, all I did was cut off the Buell cigarette lighter, strip, crimp, and solder the wires to those female ends.

As you can see in this picture, the harness that plugs into the factory accessory plug now has the female ends on the wires. It used to have the Buell cigarette lighter on the other end.

I hope that answers your question.

http://www.juddemerson.com/Buell/mods/pic1.jpg

The Powerlet plugs that go into the socket do lock in place. It could be upside down and the accessory plug would still remain in place.

Here it is finally finished. The two pics show the GPS mounted and the routing of the power cable.

As far as obstructed view, the clock and MPH are obstructed along with the lower left corner of the tachometer. None of these are big deals to me. The GPS has a clock and MPH. The instrument cluster has the important info on the right side. I'm pleased.

Very nice work, thanks for the tips. I didn't know the Buell had a cigarette lighter connector, now I do and that makes it a snap to install the Powerlet.

Hey Kidder.. Whats the tender battery disconect do..??

JeepinBueller
02-02-2010, 01:58 AM
It's an SAE connector that goes directly to the battery. It's for quick and easy connection to a battery tender which trickles power into the battery keeping it charged and fresh.

Kidder: do you have the part number for the additional light plate for the 2010 LED tail light? I want to get the Jardine fender eliminator and the 2010 LED (Y0401.7AC), but don't want to use light bolts on the lisence plate (just personal preference) and don't want to cut the plastic under the tail light (unless the 2010 lisence plate light requires it). I'm basically trying to combine the 2010 and 2009 bikes for the best features (LEDs all around).

Thanks for the help. Can anybody with a 2010 shed some light (haha) on how the lisence plate light works, or is it the same as the 2009 with it being integrated with the mud gaurd?
