If Buells did not exist, what type of motorcycle would you ride? Not to hate on the US, but I'd probably ride a Suzuki GSXR 750.

GSXR 600

Probably something like a BMW R1200ST.

buellxb

I'm surprised that others chose the GSXRs. What do you like about the Suzuki bikes over Honda, Kawasaki, Ducati, or Aprilia?

azsnow
01-11-2007, 01:16 AM
The GSXR is the best all around sport bike on the market.(Except Buell of course! lol) Suzuki doesn't have much to offer in the other areas, so my guess is that they put most of the funds into the sportbike program. For the longest time, the RM and the KX were the exact same bike, just different plastics, so we know the money wasn't going there, and Honda has about a trillion other products that they put more focus on. Kawasaki just follows the croud, the ZX14 is a bad ride, but it came too late in my opinion, and Yamaha lost its luster back when the YZ was Pink and white! The R1 is a good bike, but with the same skill level rider on both, can't come close to the GSXR. Just my take on it.

Lessee...the other bikes on my shortlist when I bought my Firebolt were: Triumph Speed 4, Honda Superchicken, SV1000S. Right now, it'd probably be the Triumph 675, although a Ducati would be a strong contender (I'd love a 748, or better yet a 916...).

However, I'm glad Buell is around, or I might have ended up riding the SV1000S...

Probably a new Kawasaki Z1000. They look pretty sweet. Or maybe a Suzuki GSF500... simple, cheap, and not bad looking. I'm not an aggressive rider, so large displacement is kinda' wasted on me (says he with the 1200 Ss). ;)

I would get one that is fixable. My Buell is dead again 4th time. I also get no support from the shop or buell I call them give my info. They say they will call me back. well no calls ever. maybe I need to not make payments then they call. nope that ruins credit that I'll need to buy a new not a buell bike once I get this one running again. It's trade time. I'm going back Suzuki or Kawasaki

Sorry about the bad luck. I do think it's the luck of the draw. Some dealers are great, some suck really bad. It happens with most motorycle brands. I suggest that you find a new dealer. I think that one of the problems is that most harley guys like cruisers, and Buells are sport bikes. HD forced Buell on the HD dealers, and most guys at the shops don't care about Buells much. My local dealer has a couple Buell freaks, so they seem to care about my Bike. [smirk]

I'm surprised nobody has said a V-Max. They aren't sport bikes really...so its a lot like apples and oranges...but those bikes just look evil. I saw a guy on one that was fitted with sport tires and full kerker exhaust. It looked like something that was forged in hell, and sounded like the end of the world. It's been one of my favorite bikes since I was a little kid.

LeFox

depends on what you're looking for...

long rides is not a thing for the hypermotard. you can do it, but with only 13liters (3.43gallon) you need a gasstation near you all the time.

but the bike is FUN!, the torque on this thing gives you a big grin on your face.
a 3rdgear roll-on wheelie is no problem with this toy! ;)

i would buy this more as an innercity, funbike for the occasional long ride.

I'd definitely go w/the Speed Triple, but the 999, not the 1050.
Just like the stylin' of the 999 better.
Does that make me "Old School"???

Of course, if you changed it to, "If money was no option and Buells didn't exist..."
Well, my answer would change immediately.
I'd be ridin' a Confederate Hellcat!
God do I love that bike! Its GORGEOUS!!!

Saw my first Hellcat @ the Daytona Bikeweek back in March.
Saw this one too...

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p39/hnglikabear/AlienBike.jpg

I saw this bike in Cycle World as a computer animation.
Imagine my surprise when, a couple years later,
I was walkin' down Main Street and low and behold!
Freakin' beautiful WORK OF ART.
Each one hand made, and he only wants $26,000.
You can't get a freakin' stock Harley for that kinda change!

Yeah! I'd want one of those too.

Most likely, Suzuki SV (1000 made naked?) or a Monster (800 S2R?).

Superdukes are bad, too....

Motoguzzi Griso 1100 is sweet, but a little too cruiser-ish.

Maybe a Triumph Street Triple or a BMW F800S.

I'm still looking for an XB, so technically for me this is a "If you don't find a buell what will you get", but the gsxr750 has always been a favorite and was my goal until I looked at too many buell pictures, I love the mv brutale, but I'll never afford it. There's a couple other bikes I'd settle for(600rr, 636r), but regardless they'd all end up stripped down and turned into a japanese version of an XB. I love the MT-01, but it's way too big for me, I wish they'd make 900-1000cc version that would be practical for my 5'7 self.

I'd also love to jam a v-rod or some other twin into a good japanese frame. For some reason the sv1000 just doesn't do it for me.

icepop77
02-16-2010, 12:32 PM
Triumph Street Triple R. I'm a fan of the naked bike and a fan of non-Japanese bikes. I don't necessarily hate Japanese bikes, I just think they significantly lack character and are massively generic. The Speed Triple isn't quite my cup of tea, but the Street Triple R is fricken amazing. I wouldn't mind the Daytona 675 either, but I'm not that into the face fairings and such.

upthemaiden
02-16-2010, 01:37 PM
I used to have a Speed four, and I think I'd definitely be up to try out a Street Triple. I was always confused as to why that bike had an inline 4 in it in the first place, plus the extra 75cc, handlebars, and USD forks definitely make it more appealing.

Well since I already have 2 Harleys & my Buell, I would have to say that if there were no Buell I would go for the BMW S1000RR. Has anyone read the write-ups on this thing? Pretty impressive I must say! Check out the link, first ride.

yeah, I haven't seen one in person yet but I think I may go outta my way to do so. it will be a good excuse to take my firebolt for a ride when the weather clears. according to the write-up on it they say that it should quite possibly be able to walk right away from a Hyabusa [up] that I would like to see :D

If there was no buells I think I would go with aprila, KTM, or maybe a ducati. I really like v twins and I think those 3 companies are the only ones that focus on v twins besides buell. Sure some of the jap companys have made a decent twin or 2 at one point or another but v-twins are not something they focus on. Also I like that buell and the Italians think outside the box unlike the jap bike which all seem cookie cutter in comparison.

Not giving up on Buell. but this high-reving 2 cylinder has got me drooling.

Sharper and lighter than anything that calls itself competition: 120 torque, 155 HP at 10,000 rpm and weighs less than 500lbs fully tanked. Nonetheless, thanks to innovative solutions and meticulous detail work, KTMs' achieved unsurpassed rideability on the street and on the racetrack, in every situation of life or riding.

the only bike really in contention was the hypermotard but it scared the woman (it was a demo with an exhaust and some other goodies so it went like snot and sounded like anger)
the hyper was like riding a telepathic machine, I swear it would start turning in before you even got around to moving your arm!

Yep the Buell has more fuel, it's lighter, it has better brakes, better suspension, and nicer wheels.

The XR1200X with sticky tires and a couple other things would be a right proper track bike, but when you can get a 3K sportie and do it up like that Deus Ex machine above, there's no reason to spend HD money on a track bike.

I like the headlight on the XR1200x though, and the ergos are nice for us tall fellers.

There are three RC8's at the ktm dealer here one of them is an RC8R with a full akrapovic exhaust and upgraded valvetrain the other is a special edition and lastly a standard RC8

Run for your life from the SXV. I traded my Superduke for one and have regretted every second of it. The day after I got it the problems started and never ended until I sold it. Oh, and I had the newer "good" model. I should mention that it's probably the funnest bike I've ever ridden, but you need deep, deep wallets to enjoy one of these.

i thought about this some more, other trhan just riding my klxr super moto or buying a ducati i would make my own american sportbike.
i though about it when i was between 10-17 years old then buel came out and i was shocked and it was what i was wishing would happen. i loved sport bikes but i want american only stuff. i was thinking of taking my ninja that blew the motor when i was 16 and putting a sportster motor in it,but i was riding my dads 883 to school everyday and it was too slow,i woul go home to get my 600 ninja to have fun. we americans can only hope mr buell and others will keep on going with american powerd sport bikes, this country and h/d should be ashamed that we do not have a sport bike and every country including china have them...this is america ans we should have the best sportbike in the world...i wish they would build a mean 4 cylender and show we are the best!

I was looking for another Triumph.

Had a TT600 for 7 years, sold it a couple of years ago. Had that bike for a year and decided to go to the dealer to purchase a Triumph Daytona 675. They didn't sell them anymore, saw a XB9SX setting there instead. Always wanted one, so I took her out for a test drive.

Ended up buying her - been almost a year now. Glad the dealer didn't have a Triumph in stock.

I didn't get the riding bug until I saw a Buell for the first time, was a mid ninties S2. Finally bought my XB9SX ten years later. (marriage sucks your life and money from you) I don't think I'd be riding if it weren't for Erik Buell. Thanks Erik! You changed my life! And thanks for the autographs at Road America!:)[cool]

What I had before :)

310 RWHP turbo Hayabusa. I sold it because I rode it like a 310rwhp turbo bike...

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e351/sak1782/Turbo%20Busa/waving.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e351/sak1782/Turbo%20Busa/IMG_2541.jpg

I got to the point where doing a 120-200mph pull did not scare me anymore, and then i did some stupid stuff out in a big town near me with it. We have a sheriff deputy friend who asked me if I was out in town because he heard on the radio a report of a bike like mine doing some things that it shouldnt be, and that i should keep it in the garage for a bit.

You can read into that, and you'll be right on all accounts :)

Either an SV1000S, a speed triple 955i, or a daytona 675. Needless to say, if Buell did not exist, the world would be a sad, dull, unfulfiled place. I would have to cry.

^ Very dull indeed :)
I wish I never would have stuck the money into my turbo hayabusa. It was fun, and it pulled like crazy, but there are a pile of turbo busa's out there. If I had known then what I do now, I would have built a turbo buell. Down the road I will.

Own the other that I would ride. Aprilia Tuono. Want another Buell, but would go for something classic like an old CB Cafe.

That Wakan (sp?) is a very sick bike indeed! I have always liked the looks of the Yamaha MT-01, but became dissappointed with the final draft of it. The concept model was the tits! Also, there was a bike that Honda did a concept for called the NAS (iirc) where they utalized the watercooled twin engine and has single sided swingarm AND front forks. That bikw was pretty amazing to look at!

I would roll my own starting with a Harley Sportster engine, soup it up with new heads and breathing - then drop it into a super low CG oil-in-swing-arm/fuel-in-frame chassis.

Many people told this before and I have nothing but to agree... if Buells didn't exist, I would not spent so much time at this forum dreaming about it, watching happy Buell owner's photos and trying to learn as much about it as I can. I would definitely not be dreaming about any other motorcycle at all. I adore Buell XB since it is the one and only motorcycle which looks, sounds, rides and feels exactly the way I need.

Best of luck to all of you Buell owners and those who is dreaming about having Buell.

I'd own a KTM RC8, Aprilla RSV or Ducati 1198, something still somewhat exclusive, and still a V-Twin.

Jezuz
01-24-2012, 10:44 AM
I'd probably go for a V-twin as well, probably something Italian. Or Austrian... if not then a triple or a V4 maybe. Damn, if we could have one bike of every type, one supermoto, one big on-off for long trips, a superbike for the track... hahaha.
Anyway, I'd probably only be driving if it wasn't for the XB-R, but if I ever get another bike, it will probably be one of these...

Hard to imagine, since my Buell is what got me into riding. Ideally, it would be this though...

Dodge Tomahawk (http://www.allpar.com/cars/concepts/tomahawk.html)

Ugly, but functional. With a theoretical top speed of 350+, all I have to say is, WEEEE!!!

Ducati 998 would be my first choice. After that in order would be RC51, bigger triumph Daytona, Honda Superhawk, had one of them a while back. My XB reminds of that bike, about the same power, not crazy fast but a lot of torque and sounds great with decent pipes.

I'd probably not be riding anything because nothing ever caught my eye and made me say I have to have it like when I saw my first Buell XB12Ss . I've looked at other brands lately but nothing gets my goat going like the Buell, that's why I've had 4 in the past 5 years I guess.[smirk]

Speed triple. Or perhaps either a Daytona 675 or a Ducati. Something about the s1000rr has been been catching my eye lately as well. But I doubt I'd get one over the first three options.
