Hi Folks,
Just picked up a 1999 M2 Cyclone last night. I've wanted one for a long time. It has Bub exhaust and the hypercharger. Here is a pic: http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Talon67/Buell%20M2%20Cyclone/IMG_5418.jpg The questions that I have are probably basic, but thought I'd throw them out there just the same. The rear brake looks fine as far as the fluid level, pad condition etc, but it won't even lock up on gravel when I'm standing on it. Wondering if maybe the piston is semi-seized???? If I am in the garage it will stop the bike if I am just pushing it with my foot. Front brake works good. The gear shifter has a ton of slop in it. Probably an inch side to side and a half inch up and down. Conmmon? Normal? Also, the rear tire is shot. Is there a better size than stock for a performance gain? What is a good replacement tire size and brand? Thanks for the help! Dave

Ok I can help you I am a fellow tuber owner.

1. the rear brakes on these things are not very strong. I was told this was on purpose but I am sure a master cylinder rebuild would not hurt.

2. It is normal for the old boomerang style shifter to have a lot of slack like that but if you want to switch I would say go to the americansportbike website to get an alternative solution to it.

3. I run 180 size rear tires on mine.

Thanks! I will check that out! I saw at least the main problem of the rear brakes. The lever is hitting the Bub exhaust before it gets much pressure on the brakes. The MC rod is extended all the way. I think I'll weld a little extension onto the rod so it won't bottom out on the pipe. Brakes might still be not so good....but at least won't bottom! Thanks! Dave

that bub exhaust though it looks good is not really as good as the 2 into 1 options and It does look like it could interfere with the brake a little bit.

Yeah, I will definitely revise the brake linkage to get it working. More than likely mod the shifter as well. Not very fond of all that slop. Do most people run the stock size tire on the rear? if so, what is a good brand and/or size for an upgrade? Has a Dunlop Sportsman or something like that on it now in a 170/60/17. Thanks again

The Buell tuber rear brakes aren't ever too good. If you still aren't happy with them after you tinker with the rod, a braided stainless brake line does improve them a bit.

I have run both 170/60 and 180/55 rear tires and I have had good luck with both sizes. Some owners claim to notice the handling differences between the two sizes, but I don't push my bikes hard enough to tell.

The same goes for my opinion on tires. I don't push them hard, so I have had good luck with every brand I have had.....Dunlop, Michelin, Avon, Battlax, Pirelli, Metzeler, Continental. I would recommend trying one of the dual compound tires to improve the longevity if you do a lot of highway riding.

Nice Cyclone, by the way, even if the Google ad is blocking the front end.

Thanks for the info! I reworked the rod and I'll test it out tomorrow to see if it helps. Now to start tire shopping! Here's a nother pic... http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Talon67/Buell%20M2%20Cyclone/IMG_5424.jpg

I ended up going with the Shinko 180/55/17 and it looks great! Now to get the rear shock issue resolved!

whats wrong with your rear shock?

It is leaking around the rod seal and even with the compression dampener screwed all the way in it will pogo going down the road after hitting a 'smooth' bump on the highway....

Your cheapest fix is a used shock off of e-bay that may have issues too. Works Performance can rebuild your shock and make it better than new. If it has alot of miles without fluid it needs more than a seal +oil. Works phone # 8187011010.

The Buell tuber rear brakes aren't ever too good.

The XB rear brakes aren't too good. The 1125 rear brakes aren't too good. Not sure why, but I think it must be their preferred design practice...

I've looked for the Bub exhaust like this but have yet to find a pic or part number. Does it heat up the voltage regulator?

when i had my m2 the best thing i did to it was put a mikuni 42 carb which took 20 mins. and i put a race ignition module and that bike ran like a bat out of hell
