We've had the Drummer on Beth's cg for a few months now, and tonight I finally got around to installing the race ECM and K&N air filter. It fired right up and promptly stalled, firing up again with some difficulty and running very rough for the first few minutes as I ran around the neighborhood warming it up. With the throttle open it runs well, and I mean REALLY well, definitely feeling faster than before, and now it will idle, but the throttle response at low RPM is **** and it stumbles quite a bit when the throttle is initially applied, again at low RPM.

Is this normal until the bike's been ridden for a little while? Also, when we installed the Drummer we had some throttle response issues until we had the TPS reset, but nothing this bad. Will a TPS reset and some mileage cure this, or will Beth be happier with the standard ECM? As small and light as she is, this much jerkiness could be a safety issue around town for her.

TPS RESET as soon as you can.

TPS Reset and ride 5 mins between 3500 and 4500 rpm and that will re-learn the ECM

TPS RESET IS A MUST WITH THE RACE ECM INSTALL. MINE RAN TERRIBLE ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, RAN LIKE A CHAMP THE WAY HOME.

just installed a drummer today on my xb12ss. i spoke with the tech team at legnth at the stealership and they swore the 08's did not need a ecm tuner or any changes to the air box. thoughts? the diffence with the exhaust was what i had hoped for. had to grip tight to hold on :)

Probably do a TPS reset and a good "learn-in" ride and you should be golden for awhile. The '08+ ECMs can handle an exhuast OR intake mod, but can't fully compensate for both.

It'll be rideable but the best thing for the engine in the long-term, is to have a remap.....and Xoptiinside.com is now back in business. [up] The remap will be money well spent.

Are you sure about xopti- last I checked ecmspy program is not available

Xoptiinside.com is back in business and tuning bikes with the ECMSpy program.

The ECMSpy Project, which was ongoing, is now discontinued. But the Freeware program can still be used if you have it. Do you need it?

Yes I need the ECMSpy program. I have 2010 xb12ss, if that information is needed.

ECMSpy isn't fully compatible with the '09+ Buells. Heard good things from these custom tuners, might check with them:

I live in Northern Indiana. So a pretty long trip to JTS. Are there Buell Race ECM's for my model year?

Also I am pretty computer savy, but I really do not want to mess up my only ECM and have a really nice paper weight.

Anyone need a cable? I can send one for $45 shipped in the US. I also can get you the latest ecmspy program and I have most of the Race maps.

thunderstorm- no worries if you can run a computer. You can back up your existing settings in case you need to revert back.

Are there Buell Race ECM's for my model year?Last I heard, it took a race license for '08+ bikes - so it's a no. Try contacting/emailing those guys in the links, I'm betting they may be able to send you the program and walk you through everything. I've talked briefly with OH sportbike and they were very friendly and helpful.

Did the pipe and ECM through randy hawkins and just put K&N on do i need a TPS reset on 039S or how to do that at home?

The race ECM has changed over the years and the newer ones have inputs for both the front and back o2 sensors, but any of the ECMs with work if you have headers with matching o2 sensors. The ignition and various other plugs did not change, only the o2. The newer stock ECMs compensate much better because of the way the sensors work, and over time they should be able to tune in to any new setup.

It won't be perfect, but it should run pretty good after a while. A remap is the only way to clean everything up, but the race map should be flash-able onto any ECM as long as whatever program you are using is hitting the tables right.

Edipis, are you sure it will work on my 2010?

Do you need the race ecm or can the stock ecm be reprogrammed with the cable and ecmspy?

i read somewhere 08 models can be done at home this true?

See below:

To reset an 08+ Buell, do the following:
1. Turn on the key.
2. Set the kill switch to the run position.
3. Don’t start the engine. Rotate the throttle from fully closed (gently forced closed) to fully
open (gently held open), and then back again to closed (gently forced closed).
4. Repeat 3 times. Hold each position (fully open, fully closed) for 1 full second.
5. Turn the key off and on (only once, not repeatedly).

Do you need the race ecm or can the stock ecm be reprogrammed with the cable and ecmspy? Pre-'08 bikes have ECMs that can be reprogrammed or flashed - including burning a Race EEPROM onto a stock ECM.

'08-newer bikes, for now, the ECMs are adjustable with the use of Directlink only.
