I have an unopened one in the box JIC. You're welcome to borrow it, I won't need it for awhile (knocks wood).
Thanks, I have a new one I need a sacrificial one for the fit of the new steel shells going in.
What would the turn around be? I could pull mine off.
unsure on turn around until testing complete
Isolator dismantled and new shell for bushing prototyped and tested the design is going to vary from the OE design in the vibration and engine support are two seperate functions now the bushing (soft) isolates vibration and provides some support to the engine and a hard disc "washer" goes between the shell+bracket and the underside of the bolt head. the added part can also be used to protect and extend the life of an original isolator.
How much are these gonna run $
I'll know when the first batch comes back, i"m going to start with 10 and test them and figure out my time forming the shells and center tube plus supplier cost. the first has taken days but once i see what it takes I'll be able to price them.
Ok keep us posted. I just bought one for 200 beans from harley.. it hurt me emotionally 😏😂😂😂
Thank you for doing this. It’s a tremendous amount of work and effort and I appreciate it!
still waiting on the pucks coming in to deliver to the poly place. I have the first 10 shells made and will be making the tubes Monday night so I should have the first batch by the 20th hopefully sooner. The trip to meet a new grandchild has delayed me but St Paul is slow on the long pucks and I havent seen the new set from a member here yet so .... I will notify all as things unfold
props to ^^this guy^^ for addressing an issue, taking a stance and coming up with a solution!
throwing it out there any interest in color matched pucks to your plastics and if i make them in colors I have black ,blue ,red and yellow plastic so far and if in matching color should the molds be textured like original pucks or smooth like the other body parts, smooth looks best to me but how much interest is out there ?
by the way thanks to the other member letting me model the short frame pucks off his new set they came in yesterday!
My two cents would to do them in black. Colors may look weird, plus you need to be able to match the color of the bike pretty closely or people will bitch that they dont match the body work.
If you do them textured, people will complain that the texture doesnt match. If you intentionally do them smooth, then they you can tell them to put up or shut up.
Well I just got a new tracking number from St Paul my order got mixed up and sent to Australia and has been reshipped UPS to be here monday so all parts should go to the poly manufacturer by Wednesday the 12th so the 20th is optimistic likely two weeks from then so looking at June 1st to have the first set in hand.
I'm going smooth on the pucks and trying red and black first.
I want red on my XT to match so if the poly is opaque enough to hold the color to the edges I'll be the guinea pig!
metal supermarket took 8 business days over what they promised but the steel is here and going to machinist this weekend. next week to the poly place :-)
update ................zzzzzz.......... first machinist a FAIL now at a reputable shop that I didn't use in the first place because they said three to four weeks to start on them then one day to get them out. So now they should be back in one more week to go to poly molding.
I have my old front isolator that was just removed from my bike if you're still looking. I was going to save it to try and find a solution for the rubber/
Would be glad to have it. I hope to have replacement isolator bushings soon, as soon as I do I will have some more aggressive riders try them and report back so I can use their feedback to make final changes to the stiffness. So one’s ready to swap out for another would be great.
I have the shells and tubes from the machine shop!!!!!!! Three months and 3.5x the expected cost. I’ll be calling the polyurethane place tomorrow to see how soon I can have the first batch
I also have an old one you could have for testing should you need another one.
Pmsent
The polyurethane place has the parts and will be testing on Monday
Awesome to hear that CV! Eager to see your set of pucks. Wink wink nudge nudge
New bushings should be done this week. I still need a couple extra brackets to press new bushings in to test the different ones back to back so anyone got a bad isolator pm or call me 360 any 601 time 0597. With 3 different durometer bushings to test I really could use two more.
I could send mine collect? Im on east coast of Canada.
Text me 1-506-five eight eight-6149 if interested. Just say its from BuellXB.
PS: are we getting them back? Cause I kept mine in order to try and find a solution. Cause inevitably they will require replacing again.
Well I got an email with a quote for the molds and producing the bushings Monday from the polyurethane place and a request for $ Well that kinda pissed me off as the person I was working with promised me the prototype set would be ready last Friday so after a few calls I am promised that I will have them a week from this coming Friday. So I am making my own mold fixtures and ordered the chemicals to make the f#€<!ng polyurethane myself and a pressurized oven to cure the bushings myself. All the delays with the damn machine shops has come to an end Mike Lowery has kindly offered to get involved on that end if needed. I also was looking at a building to move my shop to and due to the age of the structure and some damage to it I took a friend who is a structural engineer. Well chatting with Ben after looking at the building we were looking at one of the Buell projects and I mentioned the issue with the machine shops. Ben has his grandfather’s lathe in his garage and suggested some quality beer time at his place and see if I can make them myself a few blocks away. So there’s the update on the isolator project.
Sorry for the delay.
I thought I would be shipping these last April.
Can the poly bushings handle the vibrations as good as the rubber?
And will they be solid? If they're solid they'd transfer a lot of vibration to the chassis wouldnt they?
Still super interested in the outcome here and appreciate all the hard work CVC!
It's all about durometer (how squishy they are). Poly is more brittle than rubber and fatigues quickly. That was the Achilles heel of past attempts:( Anything soft enough to match the durometer of the rubber and be an affective vibration damper would also disintegrate quickly.
I don't now anything about molding or vulcanizing rubber, but man I wish we could find an existing bushing in a shell to just press in. Like something from a leaf spring?
Check out the video of my engine idling last year, you can see how much movement the engine has while operating. That's why I don't think solid and hard bushings are the way to go.

I tried using Moog suspension (I have the old paper catalogs with dimension specs. They were a gift from one of their tech guys. ) there is nothing that would work. The rubber is drastically too hard and there is none dimensionally correct. I spent many hours looking.
The closest was an upper 1991-95 C or K 3500 hd but it was too short and the ID would have to be opened from 14mm to 16mm and no offset and no window for front/rear vibration
CVC - have you seen this?

Some of those pics look very familiar.
Yeah I have checked pillow block mounts and even contacted two manufacturers but they want to sell 1000 or more pieces at a time for stationery equipment. Or only off the shelf parts. But with some homework the front mount for a Blast or tuber might be available.
New bushings tomorrow. I’ll be assembling an isolator tomorrow and trying it w by the weekend! ! ! !
Front isolators are still available from Twin motorcycles for the tubers. There are some aftermarket ones geared towards the BT that could work as well. The Blast uses a similar mount as I can tell.
