White is not worth more, but IMHO, I think that they are more visible to other drivers. It helps to be as light colored as possible, and it certainly can't hurt to be a nice bright white color. Mine...
Has the plug on the bottom of the carb been drilled out? Is the boot tight and without leaks? Just a couple of suggestions until someone much wiser checks in.
It might just be the tip-over switch. Pull off your seat, and look where the positive battery cable connects towards the back of the battery area. It should be covered by to semi-translucent bolt...
