Six feet and 32-in inseam, the fit of XB-R, fitted w/ 1-in lower foot-pegs) is ideal.
I'm guessing seat-to-pegs becomes uncomfortable before seat-to-bars for lanky fellers.
Buell's acc'y seat...
Significant rear wheel bearings change, last year-models, XB series, rear wheel: (3) wheel bearings: drive-belt side and (1) bearing opposite side.

Does Thunderstorm engine use same stator as a rubber-mount Sportster engine?
Dry sump, however 09 models (any XB with "new" horizontal shaft oil pump) may present oil draining from swing arm reservoir back into engine sump: check oil level promptly after engine shut-down.
Try re-setting idle speed when it's fully warmed-up.
Although, for me that's a hang @ 2k rpm, when I set it @ 1.1k rpm at first (engine not up to temp).

How many miles did the system go before failing?
Why must it fail if repaired (know welding heat can weaken, make metal harden/brittle), brazing repair joins could be an answer @ muffler.
If you experience fogging on bike's gauges or fairing parts, similar condensation, water intrusion, takes place inside its fuel tank & crankcase, too.
... even in California :p
Inspect transmission output shaft bearing & its internal needle bearing.
Thinner gaskets toward increasing compression ratio?

Choosing to sell my Buell to finance a dirt bike/toy.
If times were flush: replace my XB12R with an '08 1125R.
Adore XB's chassis & ergonomics (6-ft, 190lb).

Sorry, didn't mean to set prices, but to ask if price difference between 'em might be insignificant. :)
Don't run engine on diesel anymore! Doing so leaves much carbon & un-burnt goo; rings will seize pistons, evil will ensue...
Best case scenario:
Empty-flush tank & fuel system of diesel as much as...
Riding it is asking that surviving stud to provide twice its normal work. After some use: two broken exhaust studs.

Test for brake rotor: pump forks with wheel chocked, instead of brake-locked. :)
XB's are factory hot-rods already. What changes do you want?
I've imagined de-tuning my XB. Trying Sportster cams (thicker base gaskets?), toward a lower & broader rpm -power band; increasing...
+1, brake's rotor. Bouncing the suspension rattles rotor against wheel.
Rotor is slotted at each connection to wheel. Slot design provides limited bit of movement in all directions at each...
Check/test for air leaking into intake manifold: seal(s) between head & manifold, or missing cap on vacuum port.
(why are there two "sad" smiley's to choose from?)
I've read on the internet Amber wheels are not all the same color. Might test the t-up paint before hitting all nicks.
Have dozens on my XB's Amber wheels from PO.
Do they make Sharpies in yellow? ...
Motorcycles have a significant hinge between the rear and front tires: doesn't matter if tires match brand/style IMO.
Take the wheel off and carry it to the tire store. ;)

Realize you gotta open a rocker cover to unload the valve train from the cams? (more gaskets)
I've heard (experienced maybe) this problem, but understood it's limited to to older Japanese motorcycles; bikes switched over to synthetic oil after a couple decades running standard oil....
That's a weep at the rocker gasket; not a seep, nor a leak.
Simple tightening is unlikely to stop it. R&R rocker cover gaskets.

Subject trail riding, cow-trailing, them's my roots!
And, grateful it was there I did my pre-licensed moto learning & crashing: off-the-road (most of the time), or on country roads.
