the forks themselves have a retaining ring on the upper part of the fork. you actually have to slide the forks down from the upper triple and take that retaining ring off the forks then they will be...

possibly a bad speedo sensor? it happened on mine as well. super easy to replace its right behind the rear cylinder, one bolt to take out.
