Ok, finally got a laser thermometer. On sale from HF for $26, normally $59. A quick reading, iirc, ambient temps about 80deg F, rear cylinder 313F, front 304F, rear header 500F, front header at first...

The ridges on the '08 crank triggers a crank sensor and it sets the timing is what I was told. The '07 goes by static timing. Yes, the heat does concern me as it seems higher than it used to be. Just...
Discovered another difference in the '07 and '08 cranks. There isn't a timing mark on the '08 to do a static time.
Here's an '08 crank photo I borrowed.

Well, I took off the heat shield for the exhaust, thinking this is keeping in more heat. I removed the later model air deflectors to allow more air flow and the motor still runs hot. Maybe it's my...
Matt, someone on Badweb modded his original r/s and used spacers and longer bolts to make it stick out farther. The heat blanket on mine doesn't seem to make a difference, just hoping it does. I...
Here's a thread on Badweb with pictures of a damaged ecm

Yes, I rechecked the shifter, looked correct. It's possible I may have swung the detent to the incorrect side. Hoping not, since the entire engine has to be disassembled again to check.
Check to see if the ecm is damaged by the seat. Especially around where the wires plug into. Good luck.
You may be right, hopefeully the next oil change will be cleaner. I'm conciously looking and listening for weird things and my imagination may be getting the best of me. Popping out of 4th and 5th is...
I could not believe Autozone had a blind hole puller. $170 deposit and it was mine for the day.

I pulled the...
whoops, the bearings are toast. Not too surprised as I already have the black seal ones in the freezer. But none of my pullers work with these, so I need to borrow a blind puller from somewhere.

Since I have the chin spoiler off, may as well replace the tires since the centers are pretty worn. It is my commuter afterall.:D

The trans is still popping out of gear intermittantly. I am suspecting this.

I rode the bike to work today and I find the XB9 primary is just about right for the riding I do. 75mph is right at 4K and feels just right. Used to be 80mph at 4K, way to fast for it to feel...
Thanks Matt. The fan didn't hurt the wire to the o2 sensor, but I did bend the end of the o2 sensor where the wire goes into it and cracked the white plastic piece when I first installed the engine....
BAS?
Thanks Matt. Still trying to get used to it again. Been a year since I've ridden it. I was able to get rid of the check engine light and the fan is now fixed with a new fuse. The o2 sensor wire...
So far so good, getting the problems solved. Took it out for a quick spin for about 20 minutes and the gear change is really nice. But then again, it was nice to just get back on the bike. I really...
Matt, just did the XB9 swap.

I like it so far, but have not gotten to freeway speeds yet to see where the rpm...
Been working here and there on the bike. Routing everything is very tedious and took alot of trial and error. Wish I took more detaled photos. Hardest were the actuator cable and the transmission...
Thanks, I'm lucky enough to have two other bikes to ride.:D
That's ok, I've got one coming from a forum member on Advrider. He had his engine really go bad and went to an '09 and had to swap the wiring harness. I was trying to go the other way and just fix...
It's pretty much in.

I did break one of the valve cover breathers though.

Waiting to have the engine reinstalled.

Engine ready to go..

Not quite sure what's going on. I removed the orange valve cover seals that were installed when I had an oil leak.
