If I remember correctly the steel tubes are "threaded into the aluminum. When I was looking at having mine done here in Idaho the guy said he would have to remove the steel tubes before baking them...
You don't have to drop the motor to replace the rocker box gasket and it's a fairly simple job if you know how to take puzzles apart and put them back together. You will also need a torque wrench...

Same here, year round. I've ridden as low as 7 degrees but usually won't ride if it's below 15.
