Just bought a 99 X1, still trying to get it running but planning ahead here. I live in the Atlanta 'burbs and commute by bike downtown everyday. Don't get stuck in much traffic but in can easily be 90 degrees every afternoon here in the summer. I'm thinking the fan kit may be a good idea, thoughts? Any photos out there of one installed?
    Thanks

I ride my '98 S3 here in Phoenix with temps over 120f without a fan kit, they do help, the X1 is more crowded around the rear cylinder, the S3 is more open in that area.
I would give it a try without it, use higher octane fuel, and be sure to use synthetic oil and change it regularly as higher temps will break it down quicker.

I have over 70k on mine without any major issues, and it is starting its 13th summer here.
