Thread: gas drips on plastic airbox cover?

  1. #1
Has anyone else ever dripped gas on their plastic airbox cover? I did and it leaves a nasty mark that really bugs me. Anything work good for getting rid of these marks?

You could try polishing it with Novus.

use a spray can of Pledge. if available in the USA, pledge is a wax based cleaner. works real well and its cheaper than bike specific cleaner/polish...

Translucent airbox? I'd suggest Novus as well. The Pledge idea sounds good too. I spilled gas on my black airbox and it didn't make any marks. Just curious, was it gas with ethanol?

Yes its a hero blue translucent airbox. It left a smear that won't wipe clean. And it was just regular pump gas. What is novus? I have never heard of it.

Google it to see where to find it, just a plastic restorer/polisher.

Anytime I see a drop of gas hit anywhere on my bike I am quick to wipe it off with anything close- paper towels, the window washer thing, cats, squirrels, people who come too close.

Are you sure it was the gas that caused the mark? Ive spilled gas many times on my plastics and never had a smug I couldn't get off.

yeah im sure it was gas that caused the mark. It's actually pretty strange to me as well that it leaves such a mark. Im thinking that maybe the guy who owned the bike before me used some kind of polish on the bike? Im not really sure...

When i bought my XB12scg with a translucent airbox-cover. The dealer warned me about spilling gas on it. He said it would totally ruin it. He told me about one of his customers having spilled gas on the cover and had to completely replace it.
