yes it is, you just need the xb12 decm and exhaust, intake and all that. Motor fits in just fine.
Just wondering if it is possible to swap a 9 for a 12, I have a 2005 xb9sx and I am thinking about turning it into a 12 in some point in the future.
Thanks in advance,
Ben
yes it is, you just need the xb12 decm and exhaust, intake and all that. Motor fits in just fine.
just wondering why?
the 9 motor will rev higher because of the bore/stroke ratio. more revs = more potential HP. For all the money you'll spend swapping motors it's really not too much gain.
Erik did a fantastic job considering what harley let him work with.
my opinion is that 9 is not that much worser than 12. I had 9 for two years & now have 12 for 2'nd year. on 9 motor there is more response on the throttle, you don't have any headacke with exhaust valve & actual differense in HP is not such a thing you feel strongly. I had a chance to compare. 9 with Jardine & stock 12. 12 is just slightly more powerful.
You could get a big bore kit for your 9 and have a short stroke 1200 that will rev higher than a normal 12 and should have bigger dyno numbers as well
check out nrhs performance, you can get 1200 cylinder kits and lots of other stuff. anyone know what to do with the ecm if you get new cylinders/heads ported and polished/cams?
Interesting... I was wondering the same. (Swapping from 9 to 12.) What can you tell me about this? You could get a big bore kit for your 9 and have a short stroke 1200 that will rev higher than a normal 12 and should have bigger dyno numbers as well
i can make maps for any kit you want... i have a 12 with a NRHS big bore kit in it and i made my own map...
for mine just to get it fired up safely and stuff i just webt 15% up on fuel across the board for the most part... which was actually super close according to datalog and air fuel values.... then put it on the dyno and tuned off of that...
Funny -
If those who have had both the 9 and the 12 and the 12 wasn't much faster....DIDN'T have the 12 tuned correctly.
That's about all there is to that.
Reving a coupla more hundered rpm, doesn't increase the torque or the horse power when you have less inches to do it with.
Stock and both properly tuned, a 12 will win this shootout.

yes - 12 will win the race from 0 to 100 but in everyday city riding (which is not only 0-100 but also traffic, just for a reason) 9 on my opinion is more comfortable. maybe it's about engine/gearbox coupling, maybe about throttle response on midrange revs, maybe both.
anyway, it's just an opinion.
BTW - I'm definately shure about my 12 being in tune )
