Thread: Gear Slipping?

  1. #1
I just bought a 2008 buell lightning xb12s, and when i'm in 4th gear trying to pass someone on a 2 lane road, my rpm shoots up but my speed doesn't change, like the gears are catching. If you have any suggestions on how to fix, it would be much appreciated.

look for the d i y videos by dave xb12r, you'll need to make an easy clutch adjustment

Thats what I thought at first, so I went to a buell dealership to get that fixed, but its still doing it. I think the dealership just adjusted my clutch lever so my friction zone is closer to the handlebar. not actually looking at the gear box.

well as far as what you do with the dealer thats up to you. I can say there should be 1/16th to 1/8th inch play in the lever. if you have that, ide adjust the throw out mechanism.

Nothing wrong with transmission. It is only your clutch that is acting up. If the adjustment doesn't fix the problem you might need some new friction/steel clutch plates.

No problem. I hope the adjustment will take care of it. Would be a good time to change primary fluid as well.
