I need to re-tap 2 holes for the chin fairing. I have a big tap and dye kit, but none are correct.

What is the correct tap I need? Should be the same for all the fairing bolts.

    Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken just about all the bolts that hold plastics on are 1/4"x20tpi.

I know the ones for the flyscreen and belt guards are.

thanks from me, too. One hole is mangled and I didn't have a tap for it.

You are welcome. If you ever need something like that again, you can go to home depot or a hardware store or whereever you get your tap or die from, and bring the bolt that threads into the hole or the nut that threads onto the bolt. There is usually a plate you can thread them into to find out what size they are.

I usualy use a thread pitch guage and calipers to find out what size they are, but not everyone has those. They can come in handy for those small ones.

Finally got some free time and got this project finished. Nice to have all the bolts in it again. Thanks for the help!!

I took the bolt to HD and it would not fit in any of the spots on the board. I have a thread pitch gauge, but no calipers. Time to get some!

They can come in handy for a ton of stuff. Its nice to have a thread chart in your garage as well so when you measure the screw all you need to do is look it up by the decimal place so you dont have to convert it into a fraction. Most fasteners are a Class 2 thread fit so the Outside diameter is usually a few thousands smaller than the fractional size. (It makes it easier to thread in and out, and cross thread....)

any way, i am rambling. Glad you got it fixed!
