Thread: Brembo rear "hidden" caliper mod, list of calipers

  1. #1
I wanted to put together a thread by those who have done the Brembo Rear caliper relocate mod. There are so many calipers that will work, but only 2 that people really talk about. Please add or let us know if any of the following calipers DO NOT work… thanks

So if you have done this mod please add:
    what bike you have,

what caliper (Part number and Model number) you bought,

and what bike it came off of (year make and model).

And anything you think might be of value to anyone thinking about this mod, if you needed to buy a different brake line, how you routed the brake line, or anything you learned while doing your install.

    Here is what I have
    2007 Buell Firebolt XB9R

    Caliper Brembo part number 20.6951.45 Model number P 34 Cfrom a 2003 Ducati 999R

    This caliper is the same on the 2003 Ducati 749, 749S, 749R, 999, 999S, and 999R

I used the existing brake line and routed it the same way it was routed to the original rear caliper.

Here is a list I compiled while looking for my caliper. Other P 34 C calipers that should fit
    20.6951.60 from a 2003 Ducati Supersport S 620, Supersport, S 800, and Supersport SS 800,
Other P 34 C Calipers part numbers include (but I do not have the make or model they are used on)
    20.6951.12
    20.6951.22
    20.6951.30
    20.6951.35

    20.6951.52
    20.6951.53
    20.6951.62

    I bought:
2005 Ducati Monster S2R Rear Brake Caliper

Used my stock stuff. May need to get the Ducati/Brembo master cylinder because the brake seems to have lost some stopping power. Bled them like 10 times, trying to make sure all the air was out but hasn't gotten better.

    Big ups for the list.

The question I have about the one you used from the 999R is which direction does the bleed fitting point? Fitting is one thing, but creating a problem for yourself is another. IMO, the ones that point "perpendicular" to the disc leave your bleed hose run through the spokes of the wheel. It might be easier to get a wrench on the flats of the fitting though. Also, if the bleed fitting ends up on the "downhill" side of the caliper once it's mounted, you're going to have more difficulty getting a good bleed.

That being said, if folks could add a pic of the caliper they use in addition to the bike it came from, that would be great.

Again, ups to deh2k2 for starting this thread.

I was planning on using an injector brake bleeder, force fluid and air up the line...

And if you do get a caliper that has the bleeder screw in the wrong position, just bleed it BEFORE you mount it up.

Absolutely, that is my “B” plan…. And for the great look and the lighter brake, the occasional removing of 2 bolts and shifting the caliper to bleed is worth it to me… Do a complete fluid change, with really good fluid, and you should be set for a while...

Please add your caliper; I really was hoping this would be a one stop shop for sourcing out Brembo calipers for this great mod, and it should help those on eBay from fighting over one or two calipers and help keep that price down as well.

I used the Dual Piston Ducati Caliper. (the one where Brake line connects at top of caliper, not the side) No clue what the part number is since i got it off ebay.
Bracket is from American Sports Bike.

I used my original brake line in the same position.
    Total cost: $120
    8000 miles no problems.

nd if you do get a caliper that has the bleeder screw in the wrong position, just bleed it BEFORE you mount it up.
That only works on initial installation. It seems to me that's just creating a problem for yourself later.
