I might be aquiring a 05 XB9SX roller. The engine is junk. I located a 05 XB12R engine though, whats needed to do the swap? From the looks of it, the engine doesn't include anything but the engine and tranny, no case covers, manifolds or any EFI related stuff.

What is needed to complete this sort of swap?

Can the intake manifold and all associated EFI stuff from the 9 work on the 12?

What about the case covers and header?

Can EFI SPY be used to tune the 9 ECM to run a 12?

What about engine mounts, any difference?

    Primary belt sprocket?

Any info would be great, I just dont want to get the 12 engine (which is CHEAP) and then find out I need a huge list of parts to make it work.

As for the current engine in the bike, I was told it had flywheel walk and would cost $2k to fix. Any chance the 12 crank, rods and piston would slap in there with the 12 jugs and maybe the 9 heads (so I could use the EFI stuff and header if they are different)?

    Thanks in advance!

well the ecm, the headers, the injector

    maybe a exup delete thing

the only differance between the nine's and twelve's motor to my understanding is crankshaft and the primary sprocket and primary chain.

and if you get it, i would be interested in your old case/ transmission one of my shift forks is bent and i want to change my transmission for a updated year

and the wire harness just to be safe.

and you can actually leave your primary innards if you like alot of extra torque with lowered top end

It will all swap. the only difference in the 9 and 12 is the crank and pistons. The 12 piston has a dome on top for high compression and the crank is a shorter stroke in the 9. The jugs are the same diam. Heads are the same. Harness is different because one is a S and the other is a R, ecm's are in different places and one has a exhaust servo and the 9 doesnt.

The best part of the swap, aside from performance, is that it is still titled as a 984cc bike and that is what insurance bases rates on.
Same thing of one did the 88" head kit on a 12.

So, the engine will bolt in but.....

I'd need a different ECM, injectors, headers?

What about the case covers? I recall seeing some Buells have a round right side cover and others having an oval shape. Is that a year difference or is it a difference from the 9 and 12? The 12 engine has no case covers either the right side or primary.

And I swear I remember reading the 9 and 12 heads were different, there the same?

    Thanks for the input guys!
