Go into ecmspy and uncheck (idle closed loop enable) its on your ECM-config tab, second one down and burn that setting to ecm. See if that makes a differance.
I think I remember reading that a fuel pump is covered by law for 5 years.

Dallas, do you have any concrete information on that? I'd really not like to have to buy a fuel pump ($$). And Gator, I did that and burned it, and it "idles" now...kind of. It surges really bad, and to keep it from dying, I have to have the TPS set way high. On another, but hopefully related note, is this vacuum connection supposed to be open? If not, that might be the magic pill I'm looking for.
EDIT: Double post
Surging is usually a sure sign of a air leak. Usually associated with a intake seal leak. Im not sure what the vacuum line goes to in the pick. Is that a California model bike.
Here is a link to discussing the fuel pump and laws regarding it. From what I can tell in my book the missing tubing is for a cali canister. If anyone wants to confirm it is on page 4-119 and 4-130 of the '06 service manual or I can photo copy it.
I don't think it's a California model bike. I could be grossly mistaken, though. It has been known to happen. So, in regards to the fuel pump, it may or may not be covered. The links were all in lawyer jargon, lol. I'll look into it, though. Couldn't hurt. I'll checked for intake leaks before by spraying some carb cleaner when the bike was running, but I guess it couldn't hurt to try it again...
it should be plugged.did your bike back fire before this happend?
Not that I can remember. I have been trying to diagnose the problems for a few weeks, so it's hard o remember what I have/have not done. And what occurred right before the bike started running like crap.
ive read other posts about that plug coming off and causeing problems plug it and see if it helps.
