You should not have to remove the swingarm. Just unbolt the shock from the swingarm. It is a PITA though.

Does the swingarm on a xb12r really have to be taken off to pull the fuel pump? Or can you just undo bolt the bottom of the shock and let the swingarm drop a bit and get it out?

Used a screw driver, worked like a champ.
1/4-20What size bolt fits in the puller hole?
When I pulled mine I just screwed in a bolt, then wiggled and pulled. It came out easy. I did have my swing arm off though so I had a straight pull on the bolt.
A screwdriver should do fine.
