Ive worked on smaller bikes and am good with cars. But whats the difficulty in dropping the motor, and installing new cams? Its something Id like to do myself instead of taking it to Harley. Plus most of the bike is apart anyway for paint and other fun stuff. Suggestions?

Why would u drop the motor to do a cam swap? Redshift cams seem to be the way to go if ur going to change them. The xb's have huge cams in them from the factory that's usually why no one changes them. No real big gains to be had. U need to do some big internal mods to take advantage of bigger cams. Just my .02 cents for what I learned back in the xb days.

i second this. cams would just make servicing more frequent.

I have the cam cover and primary off to have painted. When the cam cover came off, two cams came w. it So i was just looking at the options I had. Im not hell bent on installing new cams, but since im there Im just thinking about it. Service manual says to rotate motor to reinstall cams. Buell mechanics Ive talked to said it actually is quicker and easier to just drop the whole motor. More room to work on the rockers. Anyone on here ever pull the motor? Doesnt look like much more then when you rotate. Either way...riding season is almost here...and I need to do this ASAP. Im usually riding all year :(

See here for an idea of what is involved in an engine rotation:
