I'm changing my oil on my xb12stt, drained the oil out of the swing arm went to put the bolt back in and it never got tight, backed it out and all the threads that were in the hole are now on the bolt... bikes 14 month old with just under 10000.

Think it might be under warranty? Anything other then getting a new swing possible... :(

Its my DD to so this sucks.

Helicoil it or time-cert it. I dont
    1) time cert part number:
0122a....shorter length insert is what you need and is specified by the "a"
    2) Helicoil...dont have the part number for this, maybe someone can chime in

Time-cert is the better of the two, but more expensive and a tiny bit more involved(not much)
You will need to remove your pipe to acces the drain plug, but you can get it done on the side stand.

Dont freak tho...lots of people do it. The newer swingarms arm cast alum and the torque specs IN THE MANUAL are jacked up. If you can believe that!
Read a little bit and search in this forum for what your looking for. Biggest thing you'll have to worry about is getting aluminum shavings in the tank. I would flush out with a few quarts of cheepy oil.

Why does the manual say to torque it that tight? I couldn't figure that out. Also i think it should be noted in the how to video or put like a youtube caption to not torque it that high...

I would assume that the oil filter would trap those little pieces that broke off before it would do any damage correct?

the problem with letting it go through the oil filter is that it has to go through the motor first. The filter is on the scavenge side of the oil pump.
