I would start with saving your EEPROM and maps, download a stock EEPROM/map for your bike an load it(as long as the bike is stock), do a TPS reset, then see how it runs
Hi guys. I've been having some issues with my bike. '05 xb12scg. 32,000 miles.
Problems;
Running generally rough, idling at higher rpm than normal (normally 1k, now 1200k and yes that's a difference), decreased gas mileage, stalled once in neutral at a stop, stalled today under steady throttle at approximately 50mph, surges under steady throttle, start sequence takes anywhere from instant to five 'restarts' to run.
I changed the plugs today, thanks for the great DIY info here and found both plugs to be lean. The wires themselves looked fine. Tomorrow I'm going to get the TPS reset but I'm not convinced that my surging isn't a fuel filter/fuel pump issue.
Theories? Miraculous insight?

Unfortunately I have to take it to the stealership for the reset.
Looking forward to hearing if the TPS reset fixes your issues. I'll be resetting mine this weekend (hopefully).
Sounds like an electrical problem. Check all your connections and grounds. I have experienced a lot of weird problems when my battery terminal was loose. Mine also died on me at about 60. When your bike died, did your speedometer and tack both drop to zero? If they did then you lost electrical power. When you where going 50 your speed should have indicated normal as you slowed down.
^^if it's like that, mine did that as well and it was a ground problem.
I should add that she's running the race ecm with a Drummer pipe.
I will check the ground and whatnot in a few. Poking around last night didn't find anything frayed or otherwise but that's a good suggestion, thanks.
As for my gauges, I was too busy trying not to die in rush hour traffic. I know that's not helpful but I had to keep my head up and grow eyeballs all around my head. Freaking Atlanta drivers...
Hey, just an update on my situation, since we seem to be having very similar problems. I read on another thread about using Seafoam to clean injectors, and another thread where A guy was having a similar issue that he fixed by cleaning the throttle plate with carb cleaner - see his video here Video
Anyway, I went and bought a bottle of Seafoam, added 4 ounces to a full tank, and gently cleaned the throttle plate with a rag soaked with some. I wouldn't say my problem is solved, but it's running better than it has in a week. Still coughing a little, but doesn't die at idle any more, and the coughing may stop one the injectors get fully cleaned out. Just thought I would pass on the info.
Thanks djeans, I'll pick some up after work.
Here's what happened at the dealer. I did have the TPS reset and the bike has smoothed out significantly. However, it is still pinging and running lean according to the plug reading I did earlier today. The dealer recommends reinstalling the stock ecm, so they can charge me more money I guess. For some reason they can't remap the race ecm or change any settings to save my plugs or more importantly, engine. According to the tech though, running hot will only require me to change plugs more frequently. Uh huh. They think I should buy a tuner and wished me luck finding one that's compatible with Buell's race ecm.
I also need a new ignition key switch to replace the one I have to wiggle to get to operate. Can I bypass that? I mean, it's not as if someone will actually try to steal it...no one knows what the hell it is. Heh. Which I prefer. Who wants what everyone else has?
The good news is that the bike is running better and I definitely do not have a manifold leak. I'll add that I did clean my air filter as well, which needed it after 27,000 miles. Who knew?
Tonight I'll change my oil, rear brake pads and pour Seafoam all over the bike. 'Cause that's what girls do on Friday nights. ;D
Thanks for the input guys.
