Well I'm leaving for Summerland key in Florida from Milwaukee,WI on Thursday. Due to my schedule i will only have two days to make the trip. Staying with a buddy in Chattanooga, TN for one night and driving through the rest of the way the next day (12 hours, and 15 hours).
This is by far my longest trek on my firebolt (previous was about 600 miles with a passenger), any advice from the wise owls on things i may need, should do before I leave. I'm changing the oil tonight and getting an iphone (gps).

Some padded bicycle shorts may be a good idea, rain gear, and $ haha. Have a good, safe trip.

New tires. I did St Louis to orlando a few times, got caught with a slim rear tire once. Never again.

depending on your exhaust. EAR PLUGS! Also, a camelpack is nice so you dont have to stop to drink.

my tires are still pretty fresh, might need to look into some new ones when i get back (3,200 miles later). i have a stock exhaust so i should be good there, and i have a built in hydration system in my daypack, Gonna be prayin for clear skies

One other thing, stop often and walk around some. Enjoy the ride and don't keep going if your attention wanders or you get tired/sleepy.

Earplugs for sure! I just started riding with them on a regular basis, and wow! I can't believe how much better it is. My ICON helmet is sooo noisy!

+1 on the earplugs! Even with a stock exhaust which is not excessively loud, the wind noise for a sustained period of riding will drive you nuts! You want to be as comfortable as possible.

10-4 on several pairs of good earplugs. raingear, good gloves, advil for those nagging shoulder and base of neck pains, and a bit of tape for around the visor on a full face helmet. cuts down on windnoise. did i mention earplugs????

I like the sound of the exhaust, maybe its because i havent blown out my ears yet. I would set up your gear on the back of the bike for a back rest. also maybe a throttle lock, sounds like majority of that (Illinois) is straight boring highway.
