I've replaced my switch twice. So maybe..... Also follow the wire back to the brake light and check for resistance.
My front brake lever is not activating my brake light. Rear brake activates the light so I don't think it is the fuse or the bulb.
I did a resistance test on the lever switch and it seems to be working correctly. When I put a voltage tester on the wires leading to the brake front brake lever switch it reads 12v on the orange wire and the red wire is grounding.
Not sure what to do to fix this problem?
I've replaced my switch twice. So maybe..... Also follow the wire back to the brake light and check for resistance.
Also check the steering head area where the wire harnass comes up from the frame - really tight space for the wiring.
brake light switch!
check the wire that plugs into the front brake. I broke mine. Wire is pretty thin. Just resoldered it.
If it's the switch, it's located the underside of the lever. You'll see the switch at the base of the lever. Its the part that makes the clicking noise when you pull the lever. The contacts on my bad switch looked like it shorted a a little and had some melted plastic. American Sportsbike should have the part.
Front Brake Switch
But definitely check the steering head area like Stevenc150 said.
I did a resistance test on the brake lever switch and it is working. Maybe it fails to work when it has to carry the electric load from the light?
I will try putting a jumper on the plug to see if bypassing the switch kicks the light.
I would just pull new wires if I knew where they connect into the tail light. With everything wrapped up I cannot trace that Red wire to see where it joins with rear brake wire to power the brake light.
Mine just acted up as well. I hogged out the connector with a **** ton of WD40. I also took a wire brush to the blades on the switch. Working like new.
Jumped the wires with a alligator clip and light worked. Switch works on my tester but can't carry the current to turn on the light. Looks like you guys were right.
Parts are ordered. Will try to make the old one work in the short term.
Thanks for help
opened the switch then sanded and cleaned all surfaces. Old one is working fine now.
