Coming up on the 5k service for changing the primary oil. I found this xbknownproblems and want to check the torque as mentioned. Anyone done this? I have no indications that it is loose, but the bike was built in Aug of 02 and want to check this. From searching in seems that parts I need on hand are a primary gasket, and the seal for the shifter shaft. What is a good sub for the locking bar? I got some metal laying around but dont want to hurt the gear teeth. Would a piece of a 2x4 work? Do I need a new nut as well or is the old one reusable?

If you want to check it, oil-gasket-seal is it. The factory lock bar is 1" wide and 3 3/4" long, 1/4" thick, deeply beveled on the ends. Some have reported using a 4" strap hinge from the hardware store with good results. The gear teeth are tough. Torque to 190-210 ft/lb. All I have is a 1/2" torque wrench, it clicked at 150 and I said good enough.
