Voltage regulator, then stator, thats where I would start.
Ok, so I accidentally left my key on while I was at work.I jumped it from one of those auxiliary jump boxes and let it run for 5 minutes or so, I unhooked it and left for home. 200 yards down the road the bike died (I assume the battery went dead). I attempted to jump start the bike from a co-worker's truck to no avail. I brought the bike home on a trailer and put it on the battery charger, when I tried to start it after a whole night worth of trickle charging all I experienced was popping the 15 amp fuse that is associated with the key switch when I turn the bike to the "on" position. I did this 2-3 times (with the key and kill switch on, and with the kill switch off) all with the same results. Is it possible that I fried something else when I tried to jump the bike? I have an 05 buell xb9sx.
any input is appreciated.
thanks,
Ben
Voltage regulator, then stator, thats where I would start.
It was the "key switch" relay.
Load test the battery first.
Check the diodes.
Check wiring near where you connected leads, especially boost from truck.
My guess is problem occurs before VR and stator are live.
Was just about to post key switch relay. Had the manual open to there.
Good, that was easy and cheap.
the car prob fried ur ecm; tried this with a diesel and it fried mine
It's not a good idea to jump start a Bike with a larger cell/CCA battery if you do get the cables off quick. You will fry a wire of blow something in the electrical systems area. Some foreign bikes you can't jump at all it will fry something by just hooking up,
hopefully it will be a (relay), or fuse area. If not start at the source and just trace it down. The reason the relay is there is to connect power and protect from the small Accidents that life throws at you. Glad it was an easy fix. THIS time.Next time the battery lets you down if you have to jump it,make sure to not have your key switch on at all, till after the cables are hooked up ,then make SURE to NOT have the other Vechicle running at All. Your Battery is only 200CCA-cold cranking amps-A Vechicle is at the smallest 550cca or above. YES a Diesel will absolutely fry an ECM most have 2-batterys Each CCA battery is approx.,900 and more just for starting and glow plugs warm up.Depending on the Vechicle design.Ride Safe.*Jimi;)
Thanks, Jimi, learned quite a lot right there.
