Hey fellas first post.... forum seems pretty great so far.

so i picked up a 03 xb9s lightning, all stock, 21xxx miles. The bad, oil pump has just failed. The drive gear has come apart.

so all assuming it was not run with low oil pressure. what should i replace in your opinion
    my current list is:
    oil pump complete
    bronze drive gear
    all gaskets and such.
the one bushing is the side cover has a few marks but no feelable scratches.
so im changing the bushings in the side cover.

what do yoy think about the cams? the front intake cam shows marks on the lobe but no scratches or any flakes in the teeth. I thought about doing all new cams?

    thanks in advance
    adam

do these cams show some wear on the lobes. By wear i mean like discoloration and polishing on the lobes. the lifters look new and all roll perfect.

do these motors show some signs of use by 21k miles?

Also can one cam be changed? or is it a matched set?

    btw this bike feels awesome1

Generally on these motors, if one cam gets trashed, the other one is too, hopefully, thats as far as the pieces of gear went

I wouldnt say the cam is trashed. just has some wear on it.

no scratches, no missing or damaged teeth, journels all are to factory spec.

I see no pieces except for in the cam case. I looked in the oil tank and such. found one piece in the oil pump but it was trashed anywho.

    thanks

And i say "wear" because I dont know how to explain it. they just look polished on the lobe were the roller contacts them.
I would think this is normal for 21k miles???

if you can, get a mechanic to look at 'em before you do anything else. worth a shot before spending $$$. my 9s has over 25k and still going, good luck

Thanks for the replys guys. I'll see what I can do.

Anyone make good cams for the xb9?

Being a rollar lifter motor that sounds like normal wear to me. If you see any scratches (say that you could catch your finger nail on) then replace. Other than that it seems normal to me. Cheers and good luck
